💕This study, showing the presence of heavy metals in pink salt, has been all over my social media. What are your thoughts? Let’s talk about it!
💕The study I referenced (listed below) showed that most pink salts had mineral content that was well below the RDI. So, while it may contribute to mineral intake in some fashion, it certainly isn’t a rich source of any specific nutrient or could be used to deplete nutrients. Additionally, there was a varying amount of minerals in the salt samples … dependent on brand or granule size, for example. High lead levels exceeding Australian safety standards were found in one pink salt from Peru, the study listed.
So… Should you stop eating pink salt!?? The answer is up to you and your healthcare provider. But in my opinion, there probably isn’t an exceedingly strong argument to be made for pink salt being much more nutrient or ‘healthful’ dense than table salt. Will I throw the pink salt I have at home away? Nope. I will use it, and it still is super cute 💕💕💕💕💕
