The SV650 will never be replaced in my opinion. It is such a unique and special bike. At track days, you see so many people on SV650's. It is just such a versatile bike and I think it would be really difficult to achieve the same level of interest from so many different riders.

Honestly, I’d be a little sad if Suzuki ends production of the little V-Twin. However, to replace it with a, cheaper to produce, parallel twin, seems like a very Suzuki move! Good point. I imagine emissions regulations have a hand this too, otherwise Suzuki would just keep cranking out the 650 V twin. Another thought is that one of the biggest competitors to the SV are used SV’s. One bike that I’m interested in buying within the next year is the VStrom. But again, the same principle applies. I’ll likely buy this used as opposed to brand new.

IMO, all parallel twins are soulless compromised. Even the cross plane twins people seem to like. The great part of the SV was bringing a premium engine configuration to the mass market. If they give that up, the replacement needs to be the best at everything or absurdly cheap. I'm not sure Suzuki has it in them to go more premium than Aprilia or lower margin than Enfield. It will likely be another commuting machine for SE Asia not intended to appeal to North America.

Back when I owned an MT-07 I was thinking: "The adapted crankshaft is a great concept of emulating the character and sound of a V2 with so much benefits and without any drawbacks." - which is not entirely true and not the whole story. Technically it is possible to nearly perfectly balance a 90° V2 with a counterweight at the crankshaft, which weights exactly as much as one rod and one piston combined. You cant simply do that with a Crossplane Inline 2. When I got my hands on a SFV650 I understood why Suzuki was sticking to the V2 for so long. This engine runs so much smoother and feels so much more precise at the throttle. There are way less load change reactions and it feels entirely less of a "hooligan" and more of a mature bike. It is totally understandable that they have to lower the cost and drop the V2 as well as the tubular frame and go with the flow. Makes me sad, but as these machines are sturdy as hell it may be possible to keep one of these forever.
@MrDeepseadweller

@Forrest dumb, Having owned both I agree with your comments on balance and throttle feel. However there is something about the way Yamaha have setup their balance shaft on the CP2 which gives it that throbby, slightly raucous feel which is utterly addictive. It's just enough vibes to give it character without being tiring in any way. I guess that's why a lot of us love them.

@@astrostrotch I loved that rough punch too. Amazing bike and I would kept my beatiful MT07 forever, if it wasnt totaled in a crash. Luckily it was not my fault so it was compensated by the insurance. In my Region the prices for the MT07 where exploding due to the Hype at this time. An used MT07 from 2015 where around 7k and new ones only available with waiting a year. Had a look for alternatives and started testriding the whole class. The SV650 totally floated my boat and the SFV650 Gladius is essentially the same bike but crazy cheap for being beaten with the ugly stick. Got one from 2015 with 8k miles and warranty for 3.5k and put another 500 in it to fix stuff that I didnt liked about it. Still miss the MT07 from time to time, but I am absolutely fine with my beloved Gladius and see a lot of pros at this bike too.

Might need to get a pipe for the KLR... All the noise comes from piston slap and the valve train lol

I totally think you’ve got a good perspective on this. That said, I think Suzuki will keep the GSXR-750 because of what is happening in the Super Sport racing. So my take is these will be sold under the Katana line, and like KTM they’ll spin off an adventure version of each.

He thought he could probably do it by the end of the year. When he said that, I literally laughed out loud. I knew he'd have it in a month. I'm half-expecting 100k by the new year.

Really excited for the *true* middleweight naked category to maybe get another bike, been wanting to upgrade from my ninja 400 but don’t want some 900 i4 so I’ve been leaning towards the MT07, might have to keep an eye on the boys at Suzuki tho 👀

I've been eyeing the mt07 as well, my neighbor had one and I was thoroughly impressed. I'm currently on a cruiser and want something sporty for ripping around on day trips.

I would love to see an update for the SV650. Firstly, Suzuki's lineup is very ancient at this point, and most other manufactures outshine Suzuki by miles. Secondly, because Suzuki makes bikes with a ton of bang for buck. So would love to see a new updated SV650/750 that could once again rival the MT07 and possibly the new Honda Hornet.

SVs are like sportsters. They reach a minimum base price and then stay there forever no matter what. They're gonna be around in the second hand market forever

Good to see the channel is growing Spite. Considering the million subs yammie had, you should be killing it in no time when they all come over. Following from Australia as I haven’t found any local content to follow yet.
