Enjoyed this video quite a lot, enjoyed the scenery, and your operating the 817nd, very informative your comparison of the two antennas.

Hi Carl, really enjoying your video’s. Was wondering if you could maybe do a video on various antennas you use for vhf/uhf and for hf when portable. Also a video on different types of power sources or batteries to run portable would be good. Keep up the great work, Jon (2E0MYZ)

just a thought on Nagoya and the noise on vx8, was it an ebay Nagoya ? or reputable radio supplier?

+Dazztee most likely a cheap copy, hadn't thought of that as the cause of the issue but it's possible, thanks!

Where to get a "pack" for the radio? At best I'll be able to work from a parking deck with my "working condition$"!

Thanks Carl the antenna has it been updated with the super antenna MP1 DXMax? do you know this is a full mobile kit ? As I have a FT817nd and have just passed my Foundation and want to get out on the hills have sotabeams dipole but want something for 2m. Just made a donation to your PayPal as I really enjoy your channel. Thanks

Thank you Marcus. I use a slim Jim for 2m as it's backpack friendly, I now use a MFJ 1979 telescopic whip with radials for 20m, 40m is mostly a 10m pole with either wire for quarter wave vertical or the sotabeams dipole. I'm just heading out with dipole for 20m for a change. Rarely would I use a compromised antenna on QRP nowadays as there's only a few watts at your disposal so minimising loss and maximising gain is key.

2E0EZT amateur radio Carl I literally only got my callsign last Saturday so this week I have set my SOTABEAMS dipole up a couple of times and had a couple of chances of talking to Russia and Italy and I’ve just set up in sunny winchester literally and hour ago working 20m but I’ve just realised that when I transmit on my 817 the frequency goes up by 1.4 so for example I was getting ignored by the I of man and Italy so I decided to try a clear frequency and call CQ and have set up on 14.234.00 and when I transmit from my Yaesu mic MH-36 it shows on the 817 14.235.40. Am I going nuts or is something set up on my rig... I’m so puzzled !!? Any help from my new 817 guru would be appreciated Carl 73’s by the way all I’m after is my first CONTACT !!! M7LKY

Your handheld won’t have any band pass filter at the front end. I have a Yaesu FT-207R from 1980 and it has much better filtering on the input of the receiver. The bursts of data come from the mast at the top of Ash Bank I think. My SDR receivers suffer from it quite badly.

You took too long speaking at all (1 minute) and two minutes to explain what the video is about. By that time you would have lost people, who will move on to another video. If you want more subscribers do not abuse their time. Look at other videos, see their format. They will quickly draw you in with their content. Good luck

Ah yes an early video, at that time I was just capturing my trips out rather than concentrating on the style of the video. It's a steep learning curve once you make a decision to make KZitem videos and build your channel
