As you can see from the results below, Switch Mode Power Supply with LC filter on the output has usually lower output ripple compared to capacitor only filter.
Old School power supply (EI Core,Toroid,rectifier,capacitor) has higher ripple compared to switch mode power supplies and it needed at least 88000uF to lower the ripple to 448mV with just 5A load.
