This is the South Road & Cross Road level crossing at Emerson railway station. It is located on the Seaford line in southern Adelaide, South Australia. The crossing is situated in the middle of a four-way intersection with the track running through at a 45 degree angle. An overpass carries the through lanes of South Road over the top of this busy intersection and certainly makes for an interesting scene!
The intersection is protected by traffic lights which operate in conjunction with the crossing signals. There is a total of four gated signals for the level crossing and they have the following equipment:
Eastern signal (Cross Rd) - GRS base, GRS gate mechanism, United Group lights mounted on GRS brackets, Safetran type 3 e-bell.
Southern signal (South Rd) - Western Cullen Hayes base, GRS gate mechanism (with old logo), United Group lights mounted GEC Alsthom brackets, a dead Safetran type 3 e-bell.
Western signal (Cross Rd) - Western Cullen Hayes base, GRS gate mechanism, United Group lights mounted on WRRS brackets, Safetran type 3 e-bell.
Northern signal (South Rd) - Western Cullen Hayes base, GRS gate mechanism, United Group lights mounted on GEC Alsthom brackets, Safetran type 3 e-bell.
Both pedestrian crossings have illuminated signs which read "Caution, more than one train". These signs have Roshni sounders mounted on top and are activated if two trains approach the crossing at the same time.
All trains shown in the video are Adelaide Metro passenger services running between Adelaide and Seaford or Tonsley, operated by 4000 class electric trains.
Filmed on May 6, 2019.
