yo Ross! Congrats on the book. I'm planning to purchase it. I watched your 1-hr masterclass and it's fantastic. It really is unlike other blues online lessons, the fact you slow it down, take the time to actually articulate your phrases, what you targeted, how/why - I never found anyone else doing that. Everyone else only says: "hit chord tones", but you took it one step forward. For that I'm excited about your book and will buy it. Is there any chance you can do a similar book and/or 1-hr masterclass for Rock? Also for Rock everyone only says: "play pentatonic and hit chord tones". If you can take it to the next level as you did with Blues - that will be incredible. What do you think? Thanks again for all your hard work, both on the channel and the book!

Hey Ross, I bought the book and can't leave a review cause I don't buy enough through Amazon, so if you want to copy and paste this somewhere feel free... I've been teaching guitar for over a decade and have made TV appearances and even had a single on the charts (not to brag, just to give context). I bought this book hoping to find one or two interesting nuggets of information, but it turned out to be brimming with useful tips and "aha" moments. Even if you're an experienced player, you can benefit from many of the concepts in this book, do not skip some chapters, there are plenty of easter egg tips scattered throughout. I tend to practice a lot, so I'll be putting in loads of hours with this book over the following months. One of the things I really like about it is that there are no secrets or fluff. The concepts are presented in a direct and accessible way, and the price is also super low :) Thanks to Ross and Luke for putting in the effort to create such a fantastic resource for guitar players.

I picked up the PDF version of "Beyond Pentatonic Blues Guitar" yesterday. Thanks sooo much for everything you put into this Ross, bravo! (and many thanks for providing purchase via PayPal) As an intermediate player I've bought over $1,000 of courses over the years. Although some of them had useful info, none were much help with playing through blues chord changes. Today I spent the entire day getting a quick overview of all the course material. It's exactly what I've been searching for to get my soloing to the next level. This is a game changer--it's hands down the best course out there on blues improvisation (and no, I didn't get paid to say this 😊) Great value for the price, with clear simple instruction and tons of excellent video examples. I'm very happy - this will keep me busy for a lifetime.

Dear Ross I watched the free master blues class & I was completely confused I consider myself to be an advanced guitarist I can play all the major scales & relative minors & modes within & I've been playing a long time but I just could not comprehend what you where trying to get across constantly adding all kinds of notes & it not belonging to any scale or pattern it was very confusing for me I've always liked watching your channel maybe I should buy the book anyway just thought I'd give my opinion on this video
@RossCampbellGuitarist
Жыл бұрын
Hey Dom, like I say in the masterclass it's completely not expected that the viewer will instantly understand it all in one viewing. You are being introduced to a way of thinking about improvising that will feel foreign to what you're used to when you can take a one-scale approach, which isn't the case with the style of blues improv that I'm teaching here. Scale and pattern based playing works for a lot of genres but for blues it can be very limiting. The book is a much more comprehensive guide to what's demonstrated in the masterclass and each chapter builds off of previously acquired knowledge, so you learn everything in a 'step-by-step' manner.

ROSS CAMPBELL, you should make a chapter and video lesson about how to use other mixolydian scales over blues progressions because harmonica players use *(Cross harp mixolydian scales ) to get other "outside blues notes". You should really look into this and make a lesson about it because this will make your major scales sound very bluesy using other mixolydian scales off of the 5th scale degree and other scale degrees like the b3, b7 to build a mixolydian scale as your new "starting point".
@RossCampbellGuitarist
Жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne. I talk about mixolydian in the book. For guitarists, I don't think that using different mixolydian scales for each chord is the optimal approach to take
@waynegram8907
Жыл бұрын
@@RossCampbellGuitarist Cross harp mixolydian example if the blues progression is in the key of A minor you use a D major harmonica so that it will be A mixolydian over the i-iv-V. The V chord is E major which you can either use E mixolydian scale or A mixolydian scale. The Blues harpist will play the D major harmonica over the whole i-iv-V or I-IV-V because playing D major scale over the A blues chord progressive gives that mixolydian blues tonality. You should make a video lesson about this

Hi Ross, I bought your new book and I’m excited to get started. Now on Page 13 you talk about the diatonic chords of the C major scale. I think I’m not alone when I say that most of us think that the C major scale is C major, D, minor, E, minor, F, major, G, major, a minor, b diminished. So I was really confused and didn’t know why you were listing all the sevens. I even went online and put in my search engine, what are the diatonic chords of a C major scale and none of the cords that you listed in the book on page 13 Is listed. I even listed the chords themselves full names C major 7 etc. and it still came back to me without calling them diatonic chords of the C major scale. This confused me.
@RossCampbellGuitarist
Жыл бұрын
Hey David, when you're only playing the chords as basic triads (root notes, 3rd's and 5th's) then the diatonic chords of C major would be exactly as you mentioned. When you extend them to include 7th's that's when you get the chord names like Cmaj7, Dm7 etc. They're still the diatonic chords of C major, just extended to include a chord tone that goes beyond their basic triads (the 7th). We list them that way in the book because it's all about improvising over dominant 7th chords, which of course do include a 7th.
@davidblanche7961
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Ross for getting back to me so fast, I kind of figured that out as I went further into the book. When we played, the blues were using dominant chords. And it all made sense to me. Thanks again. It’s good to know that you are here to answer questions.

First of all Congratulations. Thank You for your passionate dedication to this very important subject. I’ve always been particularly intrigued by Robben Fords style, approach & his tasteful lines. It’s been frustrating to not quite understand what’s actually bloody going on though😅 I’m still working through the free hour masterclass. It’s been great! What I’m really enjoying so far, is actually being ‘made to realise’ some simple facts about this dominated twelve bar chord structure! 1-4-5 twelve bar is not the same as your typical 1-4-5 major scale approach. Thanks to your persistence of finally formulating a way to nail this down from bear bones in a way that can be explained clearly. Brilliant! It now makes sense. Congratulations.
