It's funny the kind of rabbit hole a single picture can lead you down.
A humorous story of a misspelled sign at a SEPTA station led me to realize that said station was undergoing a major rebuild that makes it objectively better for everybody who ever uses it going forward. Alongside the replacement of a station with a port-a-potty as the main facility with something far more fitting for the community it serves.
Many more stations on Philadelphia's network are in a far worse state, and while some are getting upgrades, others won't well beyond the next decade. It's a ridiculous situation, and it was worth a deep dive. Join us in exploring why SEPTA's regional rail and metro rail system is as inaccessible as it is, What needs to be done to make transit accessible to all, and why a nice station is more important than some might think.
