I am pleased to introduce Robert Bowles to Conversations in Care. Robert practiced pharmacy for 42 years owning my own pharmacy for 38 of those years. He lost his purpose in life after selling his pharmacy but didn’t know what challenge he was yet to face. After 18 months, he was diagnosed with LBD (Lewy Body Dementia).
There is little awareness of Lewy Body Dementia - the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer's disease. It causes a progressive decline in mental abilities. It may also cause visual hallucinations, which generally take the form of objects, people or animals that aren't there. This can lead to unusual behavior such as having conversations with deceased loved ones.
Robert saw 8 doctors in 18 months. Medication sensitivity issues were addressed and he began advocating for dementia awareness. He became involved with Dementia Mentors in mentoring other persons with dementia and attending virtual memory cafes 2 times a week. In addition, Robert was asked to be the administrator for the “Forget Me Not Lewy Body Dementia” Facebook page.
Robert tells people he lives with LBD well and attributes it to early diagnosis. Robert’s motto is: “There is life after diagnosis”.
