That's not true, my m5 and m6 both had the factory limiter of 167, a simple jb4 tune and 400 dollars later the top speed is well over 200mph. Anyways, this car is underpowered and weighs too much, simple as that. A bone stock 550i, would destroy this so called "performance" car. Either way, you do have to give lexus props to have the balls to continue a NA engine.

You're right HodsBroo! A 400bhp car will feel no different to a 500bhp car on the road. And that's the thing, performance cars like the GS-F and RS6 never go to the track. You'll never be able to exploit that power difference so you might as well go for the best experience possible, not the most performance. And that's where the GS-F steps in, all about the experience, with its fat, old school NA V8.

Not one word about the elephant in the room - reliability. A few years ago I owned a 2009 M3 for one year - best driving car I've ever owned. But I'd never buy another one because of the repairs (2 wheel speed sensors, door opening issues, DRL burnt out, steering wheel and door trim peeling, bad rattle behind glove box). BMW has recently improved, but they are clearly focused on driving experience when new - not long-term reliability. I bought a Lexus GS350 F Sport a couple years ago. Slower and duller, but far better put together, and no issues at all. If I were leasing and just looking for a fully warrented drive for a few years, BMW all the way. But since I'll be buying and keeping, the GS F will most likely be my next car.

Your comment seems to be one of the only ones from someone who has his driving license here. Well said. I came from a similar experience to yours (albeit much lower budget), I had a Honda Civic Type R FN2 and owned it for three years without a SINGLE issue, everything "Just worked", I sold it and upgraded to a 2011 Mk6 Golf GTi with all the bells and whistles and I've had nothing but issues in 6 months (Weather strips are falling off, windows don't work half the time, gearbox issues, touch display issues). Sure my older Civic Type R interior wasn't as flash and luxury, but I'm willing to suck up these first world problems if it means I won't have to wait another four days and cough up more $$$ to send my Golf back into Volkswagen to get fixed again. I'm definitely putting this up for sale once I've payed off fixing the issues and moving to another Japanese hot hatch. Edit: Forgot to mention, my god how much it costs more to maintain a german car. $$$$

Yup. And I would pick this over all of those too. One thing people will bring up is the price. But if I bought any of those cars you just listed the way that I'd want them they be pushing over 90k. If I bought the GSF how I'd want it it would still be under 80k. And don't get me started on the M/AMG/RS cars. In the right spec those are over 110K. So in my eyes, the GSF does compete with the "lesser" cars and it's better.

@Kaisuke971

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's better. The S6 and M550i (which isn't out yet) are built to be low-key but maintain an high level of performance, so they have a certain appeal because they don't really stand out: the wolf in sheep's clothing. To be honest, that's my type of cars, very subtle, but with the little details and the unexpected performance. The Ghibli S Q4 is all out. Weirdly enough, it's not quite as fast as these (or as fast as it looks tbh), but it certainly looks better than the rest, it sounds like nothing else, and overall it's more exotic because it's a bloody Maserati. So it's for another type of people, the ones who want more emotions. The GS F is somewhere between these. It has the performance of the M550i (i think) but probably not the quality, composure and tech of the S6, or the appeal of the Maserati, but sounds as good as the Maserati and looks more bold than the M550i and the S6. It's an alternative, not an upgrade. The M5, RS6 and E63S are upgrades. That's why they cost that much more.
@harvinmahal

"If it was my money, I'd go German" well, duh. You didn't have to say it. This review was heavily bias against the GS from the start. The minute you called the GS's interior cheap I stopped listening to you and started merely hearing your words. Everyone knows that even in its middle age, the GS has one of the highest quality interiors out there. Much better than BMW, Audi and Jaguar for sure. You also called the car heavy, when a simple Google search would tell you that it's actually the lightest in its class by several hundred kilograms. That's my issue with reviewers, you guys don't like differences. And that's wrong. What is a car if not for its differences. You complain about Lexus infotainment system for example, but if you actually use the thing for more than a week you'll see that it's actually very easy to use. It's irritating that you guys expect everything to look and behave like something else. BMW uses a knob. Mercedes copied and started using a knob. Audi joined the fun and started using a knob. And Lexus said fuck y'all sheeps, I'm using a weird mouse thing and giving my customers a reliable, NA high revving V8 to play with instead. And for that I say good for Lexus. If I had the coin, my money would speak all day to the tune of the GS-F. Sorry Germany, but you can keep your fragile duel clutch transmissions and turbo engines with fake stereo engine noises. This car is everything German cars don't have the balls to be. German engineers will never swallow their pride, step down, and say "I'm gonna make a fun car with usable power for my customers to have fun in". Instead it will always be POWER, POWER and more POWER. Let's throw more power at the car, even if the tech isn't proven. Even if it breaks. Even if the power isn't usable, let's just throw power. I'm so sick of this "big d**k contest" that has plagued our automotive world.

If u want a better quality interior go for the presidential line of the Gs 450h, it has an incredible interior and if it wasn't for the new lcd screens on the E class the Lexus blows it away completely. The choice of materials and craftsmanship is flawless with far less plastic than What's in this car. The truth is all the cars in this segment have some plastic in them, there is not one competitor without plastic materials. What matters is that the plastic is soft touch and that's what is in the Gs 450h 2017 presidential line.

Good video but a bit odd...the interior has too much plastic? I drive a 2015 BMW 335i M Sport and one of my best friends has a 2014 BMW 550i M Sport and our steering wheel, which gets tons of praise, has some of the cheapest plastic in the automotive universe and no one ever comments on that. I would also say the interior on the GS is better than the 5 series and my 3 series by a pretty hefty margin. While my time in the GSF is somewhat limited I"ve got a lot of time in the GS350 F Sport which is a far nicer car than my 3 series or my buddies 5 series AND it drives better too, especially in Sport or Sport plus. The suspension is tuned better less wallow and roll, the steering is tuned better which inspires confidence, throttle tip in is great, the transmission is on par with the 8AT sport in the BMW products. Only area where BMW wins in my judgement is brake feel, and even at that its a marginal win. The brakes on the GS 350 are a touch spongy, can't really comment on the GS-F with regard to brake feel. Good video as usual

Thanks for asking. Still have her of course. Garage kept, low miles, hand washed only. Only 17K miles. Too special to ever sell, not my daily driver. No issues whatsoever. Still in love.......

@MrMustangrick thanks for responding. I love the car but the $50-$60k range for a 2016-2017 with decent mileage is tough to justify considering what can be had for that kind of money....CTS-V, well built or all original muscle cars and classics, etc. An Audi S6 or S8 for around half that with money to spare for maintenance and upgrades is also an option I've considered. I know the GSF has its special place for what it is. Let's just say I have an eclectic taste and can be indecisive. But like you something tells me I'd keep it for very long time if I do happen to get one. Glad you're enjoying it!

I feel these cars are so underrated in my area. This seem like a really good performance cruiser with lots of road presence but I barely see any on the roads. Maybe it's a location thing. I almost feel the lexus brand as a whole is not really out there... Maybe its me. Does anyone agree?

Well, in Miami, these car from lexus really aren't out in the field. What I mean is that anything that is from their performance 'F' lineup is almost non existent but there a huuge amount of IS 250s and 250 F sports around, you almost see one on every corner.
@MonteMatt85

airriderz15 exactly! You worded it better. Yeah the F cars are almost non existent. I was just in Connecticut and I saw plenty F models though. I saw 2 RC Fs. I hardly see any lexus besides the IS in Michigan.

@@MonteMatt85 they made 3200 gsf's from 2016=2020 ,, 2500 for usa market .. 700 for rest western world .. so with only 2500 in usa be rare to see one .. i'm in nz , got a 2016 gsf .. might only of seen couple others here i think , rcfs made from 2014 =24 and different engine models so you are much more likely to see one .. An E60 M5 would kick it's butt. You can pick up a very good E60 for about £50k. It's faster when unlimited, it has a brilliant noise and it is very cool.

Dude who would spend 50k on an e60?!?!?!?!? You can get f10 for that price which is laugjably faster than the e60. Is built much better looks better and can produce alot more power with simple mods. E60 is bad example their very unreliable.

Lexus F models are a bunch of frustrating cars, we know that Toyota has the capability to make a really good car that can take it to the Germans and the world in full force, they did it once before with the LFA but in some complexing way they can't seem to but all the puzzle pieces in the right place.

Agreed. I'd rather have a non F Lexus over any non-M/AMG/RS car but the F division is a letdown.

This car would be much more reliable than the German cars, guaranteed. Thats why old stuff is used; naturally aspirated engine, a torque converter automatic and not a dual clutch etc. Lexus knows that these things work and will be durable because theyve been perfected over years. If youre not that rich, you'll have much greater satisfaction owning a car that is reliable but not as technologically advanced.

I've been a fan of Lexus since the beginning. The sleek and sexy lexi of the 90's were epic, put the whole world on notice!!. But Lexus went from sleek and sexy in the 90's, to dowdy and boring in the late 00's.. Now, they're trying hard to regain that progressive and sexy image, but they're missing the mark so far IMHO. Overstyling your cars is not the path to success, just ask Pontiac... And it's almost sad how this car, and the RC F look so mean and aggressive, yet they're slower than the competition...

The reason why you're having trouble with that infotainment system is because you have the steering wheel on the wrong side. If it were on the correct side, ie the left side, then you would probably be using your right hand for that mouse thing. Vast majority of people are right handed.

People always says Lexus performance is always a generation behind. What most of these sheeps don't know is that when it comes to reliability and longevity every other manufacturer is 10 generation behind. And if Toyota/Lexus really wanted to make a car based on performance. They easily could. Look at the LFA. For it's time it held the nurburgring time for over a year. People always said it had a slow 0-60 time especially for it's price. But that car held the record for over a year because of it's weight reduction and balance. Which is what's important for corners. Even til today I don't know a car what has better balance than the LFA. But who talks about balance in a car? no one! OH and performance wasn't even the top priority when they were engineering that car. It was driver experience and feel. But then people start complaining about it's price. No one complains when a rolls royce sweptail is 12mill? Or a bugatti being 3.5m? Lamborghini Aventador with ricer body kits aka veneno 4.5m? Lykan hypersports 3.4m? I feel like reviewers and people in general always tries to undermine the Lexus brand. Lexus really is underrated IMO. Toyota if you're poor. Lexus when you ball.

Lexus isn't aiming to be the best at everything with the GS-F. This is a car of "enough", "balanced", "affordable" and "reliable". So what if it's not as fast as the Germans, how fast do those really go while they're in the shop for repairs? And a final benefit is that the GS-F looks sporty but at a way lower douchebag level than the Germans.

Hi. I don't understand something, something to do with the constant complaining of you guys and several other journalists about the UI in pretty much every damn car. I'm sorry but you complain about this car and say "what's wrong with a wheel" but in a Mercedes-Benz, you say the same thing every time. I've been in several new Mercedes' and haven't had a single problem with the infotainment system at all. So what is the problem exactly?

Proper comment this time: until the Germans decide to put off their option bullshit, I'll buy them. Besides the people who work in the dealerships have truly horrendous attitude, seriously like "aren't interested? fuck off then". Lexus dealerships have so much better services in general. I live in Asia btw.

People don't buy THAT car for reliability. They buy it because they know nothing about cars. I test drove one for 1 hour and it didn't make me smile at all. It's still lazy and fat despite the HP. Put the LFA engine it it then you'd have something interesting...and a faster transmission.

I like how you've touched on the "experience" of driving this beast compared to driving it's German counterparts. I like that it's different, it's not just another fast sedan/saloon, and I give kudos to Lexus for having the guts to go that route. Too many automakers play it safe nowadays.
