Back in 1983, Toyota's president, Eiji Toyoda, set out to develop the world's best car, codenamed Flagship-1 and released in 1989 as the luxury sedan Lexus LS, which shook up the Germans and their luxury car market!
However, it's worth noting that the LS wasn't launched alone; it debuted alongside the lower-tier Lexus ES, which was essentially a rebadged Toyota Camry Prominent or Vista. The ES had a rather mediocre and even dull design, coupled with front-wheel drive, which further distanced it from competing with anything premium, but today, let's talk about the car positioned between these two models: the Lexus GS!
