Nice work, I'm lucky enough to get a lexus is200, 2002 has 107k miles, and 3 owners, last owner had it since March 2010 till Feb 2022 and now I have it, and it has full service history, he spent around £1000 at dealer inc labour, to get timing belt and kit done, water pump, drive belts and pulleys, full engine service and all filters, coolant, new Vatra battery, O2 sensors, all High quality premium brake pads and discs around, I think brembo pads. All this was done in 2021 as car came with tons of recipts and papers from 2002 till last year 21, and I got this car for £2350 which I think is very reasonable, the engine bay looks as clean as it was a new car, and interior of the car is mint, drivers seat barely has any wear let alone rest of the seats which look no one sat in them ever, body work is good too but does have minor scratches here and there speacilly on the bumpers rest is clean.

When changing the timing belt, do you have to change the water pump?
@shizukesajdm
7 ай бұрын
You don't HAVE to, but it's highly recommended, since you have to remove the belt to get to the water pump... so you might as well. It depends on your situation. If your water pump is still quite new, but your belt is damaged then probably not. These are usually done together for a reason. That reason being, you have to get the belt off to change the water pump.

I did this recently for the power steering and alternator belt. The alternator has 3 bolts, a pivot bolt, an adjusting bolt and adjusting lock bolt. Loosen the pivot and lock and you can use the adjusting bolt to allow the alternator to turn clockwise and loosen the belt. Power steering has two bolts, one through the hole in the pulley and one on the back. The back facing bolt loosens and allows you to move the pump along a track to get the tension off the belt.

Shanu Yadav - It might be difficult if you don’t know the basics of how to line up marks on cams. Read up about TDC and BDC. Basically you have to line the marks up exactly right otherwise the timing will be off and your engine could go boom! Before you take the old belt off, mark the top of each can at 12 o’clock. For an auto I THINK you might have to leave it in N. Ask in the IS200 Facebook groups to be sure! Good luck!

I would change the thermostat first. Maybe the fan sensor switch next. Both pretty simple jobs. The fan sensor switch can be unplugged and you can plug it with something else (finger even) while you put down the old one and pick up the new. Then just plug in the new one and top up the coolant if you lost a significant amount while swapping them over. Remember, do this with a COLD engine so you don’t burn yourself. Check your radiator for leaks too. You may need a new one :) good luck! If you get stuck, just ask and I’ll try to help wherever I can.
