The wee pause on the gear change to let the brake bands in the gearbox to slow down the correct way to do it. That's how the gearboxs all got trashed

This is the only Leopard Video I've seen on KZitem where it has a 2 speed axle. I would love to see a longer video of this coach. The normal five speed had a very long space between fourth and fifth, which often meant coaches would slow to 50-55mph before changing down with the engine at max revs. But top gear would take these well past 70 on the motorway, on my journeys back from London to B'ham in the 70s and early 80s I often saw the speedo indicating 80mph with the coach in the outside lane of the M1! I only went on a couple of Leopards with the 2 speed axle, and the half step between top and fourth made a huge difference in maintaining speed on hills. Anyway, if you get a chance to do another longer video of this coach with the gear change being shown I'd really enjoy it.

Brings back memories.... including a school trip to Germany from North East on a 1972 leopard/panorama. Most memorable was seeing a one hitting 90mph for long stretches on the M1 (slight downhills) during the early hours in 1976 on an OK motor services one (Newcastle United supporters coach returning from London after league cup final with Man City... Newcastle lost! 😢)

I remember the Leyland Olympics that came to Jamaica in the 60s with this gear shifter . As a kid ,I used to love watching the driver shifting those gear & how those buses accelerated quickly . Good ol british steel . A few of those buses still survive though not driving.

More likely a 2 speed rear axle on a leopard/pneumocyclic. Either air or electrically operated. Electrical units could get caught between speeds and with no drive if used incorrectly.

The days when all you needed was a tx98 key to unlock the emergency door and you could steal the coach as you didn't need an ignition key.
