Still using a plasma display and I'm honestly not sure how I feel. On the one hand, I'm glad that when I eventually replace it, that we have options, in terms of motion clarity. On the other hand, I can't help be a little disappointed that the C2 and C1 (at 60hz BFI at least) isn't any better than my 11 year old plasma. I agree with the others though. It's nice to see someone take this feature seriously. Motion resolution was the biggest thing we lost when we ditched the old CRT technology, and it feels like we've never really caught up with it, in this arena. Great video!

@@steadychaosproductions3376 Probably cost. I've read somewhere (not sure how true this is) that to support 120hz BFI, the unit itself has to support a 240hz backplane. Cutting this out could have been a cost-saving measure. I personally would love it if the TV's would allow us to have the ability to select how clear we want the TV's to be but keep it single strobe. For example, at 60hz, C1 and C2 (and Samsung's S95B) have 8ms of image persistence. CX actually does 4ms (which is why it's so dim and flickers more than C1 and C2 - it's more clear). Would be nice if the TV manufacturers let us choose - just as an example: "High" = 4ms persistence. Clearest but dimmest. "Medium = 6ms persistence. Good middle ground "Low" = 8ms persistence. Brightest but still better than "Off" = self-explanatory. But here's to me being caught up in fantasy. :)

So basically, if one has a PS5 (which we all know isn't actually capable of 4K 120hz on any meaningful level), then the C2 is a better option as it is brighter with BFI engaged, able to do 4K 60hz (which is all you really need for the PS5), and has less flicker. Why no one talks about using BFI on 30fps games? I mean OLEDs absolutely struggle with 30fps games and it becomes a stutter fest. Both Series X and PS5 still have 30fps game modes in most games which give you full 4K or ray-tracing. On top of that we might be back to 30fps gaming once Unreal Engine 5 games are released. So, what's the solution for 30fps problems on OLEDs? Interpolation is one but the increased latency makes these games almost unplayable. BFI is another thing that could minimise the stutter but it creates duplicates of objects when you move the camera around in an FPS or open world games or when you make a turn in a racing game. What is the best way to cope with 30fps stutter in your opinion? Thanks - BTW, I wish we could have OLEDs with perfect blacks, HDR, etc., but with the same motion of the old CRTs. I would be happy to pay a fortune for a TV that had all these features at the same time.
@steadychaosproductions3376

I didnt test 30fps, but yes, I imagine motion resolution would improve, though how much is up for debate. The problem with BFI, similar to interpolation, is it adds a lot of input lag too - in addition to dimming HDR brightness.

I never expirienced lag. But I think I read somewhere that the latency is 2x slower. On an LG latency is ussualy around 4ms, but with BFI anabled it should be 8ms, but thats still nothing. Still not as good as a plasma. Plasma has been dead for almost a decade and yet their motion resolution is vastly superior to anything OLED has to offer. And the true beauty of a plasma is that it doesn't matter what the FPS of the source content is. A 30 FPS game on a plasma looks like 120 FPS. 30 FPS on an OLED looks like a discount LCD. Not to mention the fact that BFI doesn't really work with 30 FPS games, and even if it did it wouldn't matter anyway because the dimming and flickering is annoying to say the least. I'm sure PC gamers who can afford a powerful rig don't care about this since they can run their games at pretty much any frame rate they want, but as a console gamer, stuff like this matters, a lot.
