My dryer still runs after turning off if we use the 20 min cycle. We think we have narrowed it down to this cycle only. But one day it was off and suddenly I heard it come on by itself so we removed the lightbulb inside and just leave the door open all the time. It’s no big deal where the dryer is because we are the only one that sees it. My dryer & washer are both 10 yrs old now. Hated them at first but now we know how to tweak & use the cycles. I love the presetting the wash time to early and waking up to an already washed load ready for the dryer.

Thanks! This worked for me. I have an LG dlex8100v. I replaced the relay with the Panasonic recommended replacement part since the original relay was not made any more. It originally had the AJQ3341F and I replaced with 769-ALQ312 relay. My main board came out of the box easy, one screw and 3 tabs on the box and the board comes out. So no need to melt plastic for me and the main board didn't have any coating on the back. I used solder wick to remove the solder since it's cheap and I had some. I soldered in the new part which I got from Mouser in 3 days. Part, shipping and tax total was about $10.

Interesting equipment (hot blade) to cut through to the part being replaced. Also the different tips for desoldering. I hadn’t even given that a thought.

Thanks for the video! I was a bit baffled by the sealed PCB and you gave me hope. 2 questions: Any recommended options other than the hot knife? And since my new to me dryer is only a couple of years old and this motor start relay seems to be a common problem, can I get a better relay? Mine is 891P-1A-F-C. But why replace what seems to be a shoddy relay with a shoddy relay? Any other brands with the same specs/size that you could recommend?

I fixed mine by holding down power button and start button at the same time. It resets it and fixed it perfect. I was going to tear into mine and tried this like it was an iPod or Apple phone. I have this same dryer as in the video

I did a reset with dryer unplugged, then holding the start button (like draining any reserved power on a PC). Anyway, 1st cycle worked fine! Anyone have an idea why this would fix it? Secondly, I did ID the motor relay as the culprit by tapping it when it was stuck in the on position. So it will likely return OR this little "reset" somehow fixed it.

Nice work. I may have to do this to my dryer. It's working OK now, but the contacts did stick once a few weeks ago. Do you think it might work to open the top of the relay itself and polish (sand) the relay contacts themselves?
@electronicsprojects4708
4 жыл бұрын
In short I would say 'no', I have tried this many years ago and I don't see a benefit long term. The contacts get pitted and gain resistance, this means there's a lot more heat and this not only affects the contacts, but affects the metal all the way down to the solder pad for the relay and even the trace sometimes. The only thing you can do is change the relay, or hit it with a blunt object when it gets stuck, but it will continue to fail more frequently.

@@electronicsprojects4708 thanks for the detailed reply. It makes sense. Next time it happens, I'll remove the top and have a look to see what the relay part# is and order it. The wife will just have to make due till it comes in. Hoping it doesn't happen again, but if it happened once it will probably happen again. Nice to see someone that looks a bit deeper into fixing things... Have a great day!

parts replaced on wifes approx 5 year old LG dryer to date. (had a fire inside due to built up lint, etc) heating element (X2) lint screen Drum felts heat sensor moisture sensing bars (wires burnt) plastic levelling foot (burnt) thank God for KZitem and the net! Having a millwright background helps also. I still love LG appliances.

Make sure the vent is clear and dry times are short, typically 45 minutes for an average load.
@alvinhilbrec8272

@@electronicsprojects4708 I think that was the problem originally. I've since cleaned the vent and it has been working much better. That and the wife had some build-up under the lint screen so it wasn't seating properly allowing lint to collect inside the dryer body...

How did you find which relay was controlling the motor? Thanks
@electronicsprojects4708
3 жыл бұрын
Not so easy. Quickest way would be to lightly tap on each relay to see which one releases, and the motor stops. Alternate way, would be to use the schematic to see where the connector is from the board to the motor, expose the bottom of the board and use a meter, ohm and/or trace the connection from the motor connector to the relay.

No, it's not necessary, you can use a conformal coating layer over it if you want.

the part number will depend on the board you are working on, I usually order these on Ebay or Aliexpress.com. Just put your part number in the search and it should come up.

I’m Confused. From what I understand you said that the cost of the whole board was about $200 shipped but then you didn’t replace the whole board you only replaced the relay motor. Am I missing something here?

Comparing the cost of a relay (about $5 + shipping) to a control board (about $200) replacing either part will fix the issue.
