Downside of MLA is that the MLA layer will actually have issues with light refraction through the layer, which gives a grey tint to the screen like with QD-OLED (but probably not as bad). So yeah, in rooms with lights on (even if they are dim) you won't get the perfect blacks anymore to the naked eye. If it's a hindrance or not, or if it's mild enough that peak brightness wins over perfect blacks; that's something for each individual to decide. For me it was already a thing I was expecting and after the prices for the 2023 series LG OLEDs were released I decided on the G2 as an upgrade for my B8. So far I do not regret it in the slightest.

Their tonemapping for HDR10 content is still unacceptable. As seen here, you have to deal with clipped whites on HDR4000 content or elevated/darkened mid tones. Sony tone mapping just targets the highlights to ensure that APL is preserved in the dark and mid tones, but highlights are toned down to preserve color detail. This is the only acceptable way to view HDR10 content on a consumer television, and LG cannot do that without external tonemapping control from a Panasonic UHD player or a PC using madvr.

Probably won't impact the C series much this year around, since the improvements are because of the MLA technology. LG will probably keep that exclusive to high end series a bit more time. @Makoto nope, since power draw is less the burn in risk is theoretically better than G2 plus company itself is giving 5 yrs warranty which neither Sony or Samsung gives and you will see burn in on s95 series cause if you look at brightness charts , lgs older Oleds were brighter than newer ones from E series to C they nerfed it , so Lg learned their lesson . CX user here, surprised they still don't have 120hz BFI, albiet the gap to having this over the obvious improvement is getting harder to justify. Sooner or later the negatives will outweigh the positives, but those older sets are still nice. Would be good with getting any of those for a decent price. Good thing about LG is the yield finally payed off to consumers. Wonder if they'll eventually scrap the white pixel altogether and how that would look to the layout itself. Can't say in the biggest fan of how it is assembled, but to say it doesn't look anything short of amazing would be lying

120hz? Couldn't imagine playing without that especially now, and the new AI GEN 3 processing capability onward is so unbelievably good especially now. This isn't a question if you're looking to do serious next generation content. The newest set of 2020 onward sync with both console device and the latest graphics cards to push high bandwidth of fidelity. On this alone, they're aren't really close. C9 is probably the oldest I'd justify, but at this point there is guaranteed slight burn in on those, and it really just doesn't stack up to the design of the CX or especially C1 / C2 / now C3 or S90C or any of the latest revision of Panasonic / Sony, even the VA offshoot or Mini-Led will undoubtedly surpass it based on scientific principle and capabilities, sorry

@@lfesky You know that image retention (AKA "burn-in") is a result of usage practices --- that it's not at all automatic? I have over 10,000 hours on my OLED55B7A used as a PC monitor with literally _zero_ image retention. When I first got it, I had noticeable retention after only ~100 hours. I got rid of my desktop icons, changed the background from black to 50% white (i.e. grey), and most importantly reduced my OLED Light setting to '10'. After that, the image retention eventually disappeared. Keep in mind that I use my OLED in a theatre-dark environment. Anyone who buys an OLED and uses it in a lighted environment is wasting his money, as he can't even perceive the benefits of OLED. But again, I'm asking because it seems like the only thing people are interested in is brightness, when brightness is not even close to the main problem unless a person is foolishly trying to watch movies or play video games in a lighted environment. That kind of person should be buying an LCD. Anyone who is serious about image quality and/or immersion does his viewing in a theatre-dark environment.

Hi Rhuann, hope you don’t mind a passive response. I’m no Vincent (not even close) but if you’re interested in other KZitemrs in the tv space, another one called “Stop the Fomo” had an engineer from Samsung Display on his channel recently and asked him a plethora of questions. One of them was “can MLA technology, also benefit QD-OLED?” The engineer’s answer was that it was ultimately, not necessary for QD-OLED due to QD-OLED being a “top emissive display technology” versus traditional WOLED technology that is “back emissive” I recommend hearing him explain it, I’m not smart enough to explain the distinction…but many people have had this same question for the industry (for good reason!) and I happen to hear this answer from someone pretty qualified. Let me know if you want me to link the video!

I agree how are we going to judge qd oled color when it exceeds the benchmarks we are used to? I think it just shows us things we haven't seen before and that's not a bad thing. But we still have certain people pulling back its benefits Judy trying to get it to not have its advantages and try getting it to look like a wrgb oled even in the areas where it's benefits should be seen! That's not fair or right imo. Just because we seent used to it doesn't mean it's bad. I like that you actually showed the reds still and didn't just take them away or undersaturate them just for a comparison. I've been seeing some others do that when comparing with wrgb oled and imo itsnot right. We should be accepting of the new color volume and realize soon enough those will be accepted and it's something we can finally see instead of taking it away. To most consumers they will enjoy fhat extra color volume and I'm almost positive it's got just enough extra to now matching the professional monitors instead of being slightly under.

Most movies are mastered with 1,000 nit ... to not have tone mapping involved you need the capability of at least these 1,000 nit from your tv ! Btw ... HDR is NOT brighter than SDR ... in most cases it's darker ! Although HDR is in it's 7th year, many people seem to be still stuck in SDR times ... thinking HDR does brighter pictures. It's all about the contrast RANGE which is mastered between 0 and 1,000 nit (SDR: 0 to 100 nit) ... these 1,000 nit you will only see with few small specular highlights ... the majority of the movie in avg. is darker than the SDR version and the SDR settings used most...
