You’re welcome! This video did take me a long time to shoot it. I wanted to show every part I was removing so it’s clear how to do this repair. I also had to stop and wait 2 days for the spring expansion tool to arrive. I initially tried to do this without the tool. Then I had to tell viewers that the tool is absolutely necessary to finish the job. Thanks for watching!

Glad you got your washer fixed! I’m actually a professional broadcast video producer. Been in television almost 30 years! But I still remember my video instructor in college say “television is the medium of close ups”. These days I say “video is the medium of close ups”. That line is one of the main factors I take into consideration when I shoot my videos. I like to show the process up close (using a macro lens if necessary) to show in detail what I’m shooting so the viewer can follow along as if they are looking through my eyes. Especially with tutorials! I want to show each step with as much detail as possible! Thanks for watching!

I just did this repair. This is absolutely one of the best "how to" videos I have ever watched and used. I could not have replaced the defective water pump in my LG washer without first watching Nico's video. My model LG washer is a WM8000HWA. I would add one additional recommendation: be sure to note (and mark) the orientation of the pump to the pump assembly before unscrewing and removing the pump itself from the assembly. This is at 5:35 of the video. On my pump assembly, the new pump can be reinstalled in a variety of different orientations so this will ensure you don't install it at the wrong angle. Don't be afraid to do this repair - this video is very accurate and makes it clear on what to do. You will save a lot of money and time. And do follow Nico's excellent hints too! Thank you.
@digitalcamproducer

Excellent advice on marking the pump orientation before removing it. I made a mention to take note of that but physically marking it with a sharpie is a fool proof method because the pump does have to be attached in a specific way. I made a mental note and I knew I had my video footage to rely on. But thanks for your tip which I’m sure will help others!

I must pay him for coming out to assess the machine and to thank him for providing the part number required, but since I had to wait for the part I went on KZitem to assess the installation process and found your video along with several others. I must commend you on the detailed instructions and outstanding video your put up. I decided to attempt the installation, purchased the spring extender you recommended, and replaced the pump myself in a couple of hours with my wife managing the screws. Thank you so much for this video! For the past week or so during the drain cycle, my washer was making a terrible grinding noise. It would finish the cycle, but this morning with a load full of laundry, I got the dreaded OE message. I had already known about this video before it actually stopped working (I'm anal that way) and I was fortunate that a local parts supply place had the pump in stock along with the spring tool. I'm 65 years old, and in the past seven years it seems as though my washer had glued itself to the floor. Moving the washer into a position to work on it was the most difficult thing for me. Your tutorial was perfect, and it only took me about 2 hours to do the repair once I started working. 10 stars, and 20 thumbs up for this help! THANK YOU!!! This gave me the confidence to try it on my own. The fear of what we don't know is what holds us back from trying to do things on our own and coming to know how to do it ourselves. It was as easy as it looks, except for a stripped screw, (probably from a previous repair man), that I had to get off with some patience and time. I was able to get the pump switched out by myself, with the help of my daughter, which brought us together and also taught her how to do something I wasn't taught as a kid, which is how to fix our own things. Thank you for being a teacher and showing others how to do this. The confidence gained to do something unknown is the biggest thing gained.

This video was brilliant. I managed to get the entire job completed by following the steps illustrated here. Upon re-assembly I didn't have the spring spreader tool. I determined that if the left side spring is in place over the gasket it will stay in place. You can then stretch the right side of the spring with a screwdriver, then guide the wire into place by hand on the right side without any issue. Just make sure that the retaining wire is inserted as best as possible all the way around the gasket. Then only about the last 1/3 of the wire to the right of the spring needs tucking in. This video is very clear and self explanatory. I saved quite a few bucks in repair cost to spend on myself following this guide. 😁

Seriously the most helpful repair video I've ever watched. Took me less than an hour. If you don't want to or just plain didn't by the spring ring tool, an alternative is two sets of hands and a bike tire lever. Have one person hold the ring really tightly at the furthest locations you can get it to by hand and the other person start at one and slowly run the tire lever along the ring. Worked for me after a half dozen tries.

I should've watched this video first before ordering the drain pump. None of the other videos mention the spring clamp tool. My replacement pump came with an O-ring, but I didn't see you replace one. Yeah I didn’t have to deal with an O-ring on my pump. I literally took it out of the box as-is and installed it. I appreciate you noticing my camera work! The Spring Expansion tool was a life saver and made my final step of reassembly a breeze. I struggled with the bolts on the for literally a couple hours, getting them out and then back in. The bolts just didn't come out, eventually I had to pry out with a screwdriver because the rubber feet had got stuck or affixed in place. Then the base wouldn't tighten down when reinstalled. Excellent job describing the process! Regarding the ring installation, I was able to get the ring back on using two bike tire levers. It’s a little finicky but possible. The expansion tool is probably an easier method. But in a pinch, the tire levers will work. Just get the ring started on the top half. Place two tire levers in the 4 and 8 o’clock positions. Place pressure toward the machine on the levers and wiggle them down to the bottom and push the spring over the ring retaining lip. Thanks for the video!

Thank you so much! This is one of the best tutorials I've seen! Notes I learned from taking mine apart: 1. the door switch plug is easy to get to once you undo the screws and lean it down toward you, then you can get a hand from the side and the top. 2. For the spring I just used some needle nose and stretched the spring really far, then just rolled the wire over the edge, it was super easy and doable. 3. Plug the wires in while the motor is out and you can see it clearly, I first installed then plugged and didn't get the contacts to connect and bent a lead which caused some unnecessary work. Again, great tutorial, thank you for giving me the confidence to DIY!

This video is the one that worked for me. Someone else has a video where they go in from the bottom and that did not work! Also, regarding your parts organization, I fully recommend spending about $5 at Harbor Freight Tools on a parts organizer with a lid. I am clumsy and did kick my parts storage bin but the lid saved me from having a mess! Thank you for this video.

So glad my tutorial was helpful for your washer repair. Yeah quite a few people say to do this from the bottom. But I don’t have the space in my laundry room to tip the washer over. Plus I really don’t think the bolts on the pump can be reached from the opening underneath. Good job on your repair! And thanks for the tip on the parts organizer. I know I could’ve easily bumped my container of screws and everything would’ve been mixed up!

I watched several videos before this one. I really had doubts about trying to do it myself. After watching this one I didn't. It was very well done. I watched it beginning to end, went and bought the part and spring tool, and then watched it in segments as I did the job. It was an excellent tutorial and I want to say thanks for saving me some $$$$. The only place I disagree with the OP is that for me getting the main drain hose back on was the hardest part. But, it might have been the angles along with the pliers I had to use. All in all 10/10 from me. Thanks!

This video was perfect. I was able to take my washer apart, get the correct replacement pump and reassemble everything and it works like a champ! You’re welcome! Yeah that spring expansion tool is a lifesaver in the last step! When I was shooting this tutorial I had replaced the pump but couldn’t get the spring back on. Had to wait 2 days for the tool to arrive from Amazon. Got the ring back on and finished shooting the video! Even buying the pump and tool costs much less than calling a repairman! Thanks for watching!

@@digitalcamproducer That's exactly what happened to me. I took the washer apart one day to get the pump out to get a feel for the job, order the pump, waited for it to arrive, replaced it and then was like "Crap, I can't get this damn spring on" and had to wait 2 more days for the tool. Lol. Anyway, you're right that it was a lot cheaper than replacing the washer or having a repairman come out plus I scored points with the wife :)

Thank you ! I have the same model, same problem, and your video instructions, I'd have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to access that pump. You're a life saver. One note on the spring extension tool, I did not have one, but found out that it's not difficult if you have two people : One holds the spring open with two screwdrivers, the other puts the ring in the grove. Works like a charm.

Thank you so much for your detailed video. I purchased the spring extention tool and a pump. Your video gave me confidence to try changing out the pump and I was glad my LG ventless washer dryer combo had almost identical steps. I was able to also use the spring extention tool to help remove the spring instead of using a screwdriver to wedge it out. A tip that I was given years back from the guy that installed my Machine on how to easily slide and move the machine was to spray something like windex or soapy liquid on the floor under the machine and that helps glide it and it really works. Once again thank you and I am so happy to have a pump that is working again.

My washer stop draining and was making noises so I found this video and was able to repair it. I had my husband help me put the ring back on so I didn’t need the spring tool. If you’re by yourself I would get the spring tool. I had my lg washer since 2006 and this was the first time I had any problems with it, the inside was a little different but I was still able to follow along. The draining tube had sand stuck in it so I was able to clean it out as well. Now it works with no issues 🤞🏼you saved me $300 dollars! Thank you!!!!

You can get away without the spring stretching tool, if you have two relatively strong people applying pressure on the retaining ring at about the 7:00-8:00 positions, and 4:00-5:00 positions. That will allow you to reseat the ring rather easily with a screwdriver. Took us only two attempts to get it. Fantastic video, BTW!

I've taken it off and on many times myself with pliers. I now just leave it of and hung the wire on the back of the washer. Never have a problem, just check the gasket once in a while. Now fixes are quick. Change the lock super fast as well as saves time on future repairs.

@Ann Good to know. I was looking for another option like cutting off the spring and replacing it with an elastic connector or something more forgiving. Something that could fit in the groove and e strong enough to provide resistance. I’ll leave it off for now until I find a better option.

Good video but there is an easier way of changing a drain pump on an LG washer. Just tilt the machine backwards to access the underside. You can remove the screws that hold the pump unit to the mounting plater from below. You only remove four screws and disconnect the electrical for the pump using this method.

Wow thank you! I just did this repair on my LG that's almost identical to this video and your attention to detail made the job so much easier. I'd just add a word of caution to anyone that I think the 3 bolts that hold down the pump assembly go into plastic and only need to be hand tightened, could easily strip the plastic threads if using a ratchet to re-assemble. I could be wrong.
