Imagine Liam singing this with stan rogers, that’s a dream you wouldn’t want to wake from. There just aren’t inspirational men like these anymore.

A great cover by Liam of one of many fabulous songs by the late, great Stan Rogers. Lots of similarities in that they both have the gift of story-telling, great voices and give voice to their respective countries. Both gone to soon. Thank you Stan and Liam. Must be a hell of a party "up there"

It tells u something about this number that Stan Rogers wrote and perfected when the great Liam Clancy takes it upon himself to use it in concert.

Hypnotic Tranceformations - - Hypnotic?? So, so I just happened to see your comment, and followed to your web site (you look a little like someone else who has a son named Liam). So I noticed that your screen name really has something to do with your situation. I know a little about hypnosis, and it has occurred to me that probably quite a few of the approximately 60,000 dead people who got into opiate trouble could have used hypnosis for pain relief instead of chemistry, and never taken the first dose of the whatever, and might still be alive. Most of the time, alive is probably more fun than dead. If any of that makes any sense, I hope it will encourage you - better qualified than myself to comment - to find ways to agitate among the politicians etc and move toward less chemistry and more safety (better things for better living without chemistry, to plagiarize the old Du Pont slogan).

Liam Clancy!!! Words fail me. From my earliest days growing up in an Irish family the music from the homeland was a huge part of our lives. So when I first saw Liam and Tommy Makem in concert I was crying before they even started, so excited and disbelieving was I that I was actually living this moment. It was one of the pauses in life that lasts forever. After the show a friend of mine (and theirs) introduced me to them, and Liam, boyishly adorable as always, wrapped his arms around me in a huge hug -- which blessedly was recorded for a cherished keepsake -- and the first comment from envious friends was always "oh, my God! Liam Clancy hugged you!" And I'm grinning foolishly and responding "nah, he was just holding me up". I saw him many times afterwards, as well as an Irish weekend with the Clancy Brothers and forever he (and they) will be THE BEST. Real music, real talent. We shall never see their likes again.

We can only try our best. This is a very old post, I know, and I am only an optimistic idiot, but for songs like this , artists like this to "pass from the knowledge of men", well I'll do what I can to keep that from happening. Teach a kid, kindle a spark, and maybe, just maybe, we all can "rise again". Bless you and your family. "Illegitimum non carborundum est". ( dont let the bastards grind you down)

Not to diss Liam ( loved his trad. Music) but it would have been nice if he had credited Stan's writing ( The Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers) An iconic Hero to many a Canadian, and loved the world over. Final chorus: "Rise again...Rise again. Though your heart it be broken, or life about to end. No matter what you've lost - be it a home, a love, a friend. Like the Mary Ellen Carter - Rise again."
