This is a a short film about my recent ascent of the fabulous Munro Liathach which, is in my opinion, the second best mountain in the UK.
Liathach, which means the Grey One, is located in Torridon and consists of 2 Munros, Spidean a Choire Leith (1055m) and Mullach an Rathain (1023m).
Its great terraced wall, rising above Glen Torridon, is unique among Scottish mountains in conveying the impression of impregnability, an impression which is quite correct but there are a few chinks in Liathachs armour. The mountain is a huge 7KM long ridge with two principal summits, Spidean a Choire Leith and Muallach an Raithain towards the west. The ridge between them is narrow and for almost half its length is a succession of pinnacles.
The traverse of this pinnacled ridge is exposed and in places a difficult scramble, so the complete traverse of Liathach is one of the great mountaineering expeditions in Scotland and a good head for heights is required.
