Libraries offer spaces and resources that serve everyone; librarians who work to create a sense of warmth, welcome and belonging for their patrons build stronger communities. This happens by intentionally prioritizing the freedom to read, focusing on working with historically undervalued segments of the population, providing accurate and authentic information access, and believing in the value of third places and social connection.
Dawn Wacek serves as the Deputy Library Director of the La Crosse Public Library. She has worked in libraries for just over two decades, focusing on youth and families, and in leadership roles where her passion is in the reduction of barriers and finding ways to better serve the whole community.
