Used to work at a subway,, the pickles come in a bucket like this with a pull tab to break these notches. We do use the lid buster but to open it the way she did here and to hammer it closed when we dont need more pickles

There is a line underneath the dots that goes all the way around the perimeter. So if you melt one hole and cut it, and then peel the bottom strip all the way around from the hole you just created:)))

omg girl at this point no amount of suggestions will get you to use that thing right😭😭 edit: omg I'm sorry I didn't mean to start a war I'm just saying from what I've seen there's an easier way to use this that could speed up the process for her she nearly got it right (imo) but you have to flip the tool so you're not pressing the top of the lid while trying to open it it's just the internet both sides need to calm down, go outside, and get off your phones/laptops/etc it's not that deep stop filling up my notification bar sm, ty 😄

There is no right or wrong way of using something. The purpose of the tool is to open the lid. Which she is clearly doing, just because she isn't doing it the way you want her to doesn't mean she's doing it "wrong".

Hey! Glad you finally got it open!! We have one of those and don’t ever have to cut the little tabs. If we put it on the floor and leverage it to where it won’t move you can use the bottom hook to pull it open. It takes a little practice to get it open but once you do you’ll love having it! I hope this helps 😊

One last idea: try opening the pour spout before using the lid buster. This will mean you aren’t fighting against the lid and a vacuum.

I used to work in a bakery and we had buckets with the strip lid, we would use the lid buster to take off the lid after we took the strip off. We also had buckets without the strip lid, like yours, and we would have to cut the lid then use the lid buster. You’re doing it correctly, this is how we did it in a professional bakery.

Stick a screwdriver into the holes, it’s safer than scissors and sometimes you can peel it with the screw driver. Stick it in and push the handle of the screwdriver towards the center of the lid

A bit of advice, get floral wire cutters. The wire for fake flowers are much thicker than most wires but the cutters make it feel super easy to cut through. Might make opening the bucket a little less hazardous.

Hello! 😊 When I helped my dad open paint buckets we always ripped one part with a screwdriver (in your case melt) to rip the sealing ring and then peeled around the bucket that way you only melt one bit. P.S. to aid my hands I also grabbed a pair of pliers to hold tight and peel away. ❤,💅😻

i used to work at a car wash and i had to open up a bucket of powdered soap once and i didn’t know you needed tools to open these buckets and i just did it with my hands. it hurt my fingers but knowing how hard it is for her.. makes me feel strong lol

Engineer here, the mechanical advantage works out the same either way you hook it, but hooking the far jaw will be less awkward b/c you can push straight down instead of haveing to use your elbow to hold the bucket in place. Overall, i don't like the desighn of those buckets or the opening tool. Hope that helps! EDIT: I read more comments and a lot of people are referenceing a 'right' or 'wrong' way of using the tool. BOTH WAYS ARE EQUALLY CORRECT! The tool is clearly desighned to be used both ways.

I’m a roofer and we have to deal with similar problems with some buckets just take a box cutter and cut just under the holes in the lid if you’re having trouble or are afraid of cutting yourself cut down from one of the holes and lift up on the tab while u cut it and that bottom securing ring will come off and make it a lot easier to open

You could try buying an actual lid buster, it's a completely separate tool that uses a pivot that attaches to the bucket for way more leverage it's the reason buckets like this have random lines right below the lid it's a lid buster attachment point.

I worked at a paint factory for 12 years. If there is no pull tab for the bottom ring, make one. Cut one slit, then peel it off. Depending on ur strength, u may also need to slit horizontally to get it started.

I always just used a pneumatic saw for opening buckets like that. Practice on an older bucket so you get the angle and depth right that way you don't get any material inside your product. Obviously not everyone is going to have access to air tools, but you can use a Dremel or similar tool.

If you open the smaller tab in the bucket then try to open the full top it might help since it won't be in a vaccum anymore. Not too sure but that'd be my advice :)

When I worked in a restaurant we would put our fries in those buckets. You're right when you said it was the wrong kind of bucket, well lid. The type of lid that works with those have slips or notches in sides.

One of my previous jobs involved painting and we mostly used paint that comes in a 5 gallon bucket like that but it did have the pull strip. The way you used the lid buster at the end looks right but i would also use it on the other side when i needed more leverage or if it was on the floor and I would kneel on the bucket so it didnt lift up

If you use the buster on the parts that need cut that should cut the slits for you. Then use the buster like you did after cutting the slits. I used to do this all the time at a restaurant/bakery. I know this tool can be a pain but to me this is the most efficient way. Trust me I to have tried other methods.

We had to use these at a job i had and our boss had a cheap solder tool... We heated it and basically cut thru the plastic and then the tool. Worked there and used that method for dozens pf buckets a months for a couple years

You do what you did at the end, go around all the sides, but you don’t have to cut it first. My mom stored everything in these types of buckets, the lids are very reusable if you don’t cut them. But if it works it works!

You gotta kneel on the bucket with one knee (to hold it down) while you use the lid buster. Then you can pull the lid buster toward your body from a higher angle with both hands.

You definitely have to cut the tabs, I use this tool everyday. Cut the tabs then open each section one at a time. In the beginning the weight of product in bucket helps,but this tool is the easiest way to get them open

Ok so here’s the thing those buckets are made to not open if you don’t break the tabs/peel the strip depending on which the bucket has they’re a tamper evident seal like the film on your Tylenol, the lid buster is supposed to take it off after that’s removed, also if enough force is applied you can use a lid buster to break those tabs and then use it to open the bucket

1. Open the pour spout on top 2. Turn bucket over 3. Set bucket back down 4. Place lid back on pour spout Then when you are almost done with the bucket, only pop one of those slits open, grab one of the ends with a pair of pliers (preferably something like ViceGrips) yank backwards away from bucket to get lid open fully to scrape sides down. I can’t believe you’ve been doing this so long, and haven’t figured out that you don’t actually need to fully remove the lid to get the product out. Another benefit of the pour spout is you have far more control over the speed, and amount you pour out. I do this with paint cans all the time, and that is nothing more than a paint can.

the proper way to open these I recall is I'm pretty sure is actually hammering the inside seam around the rim really hard and around the whole bucket then peeling the tabs open one by one with the lid buster. this is the "proper" way but all of us agree if there isn't a tab I'm doing it your way lol.

Buy a torch lighter and some butane so you can burn through faster. Also an exacto or utility knife might be a bit easier but might be dangerous because of being so sharp. Maybe try checking out some woodcarving tools, they're usually mid sharpness and have nice handles.

Fun fact: lighters do not use gas, they use lighter fluid. The dollar store also sells lighter fluid. The top pops off and you can simply squirt some fluid in and use it for a loong long time

The problem isn't the lid buster, it's the doors in the buckets. That intent Right at the top of the holes where she spits slits it is normally where there would be a pull tab to rip off the bottom part. The way the lid comes off after she slits it is how it normally should work

You are using correctly how you’re using it. It’s really for the buckets with those peel off seals at the bottom. They have other lid openers that slice and go up under the lid for the ones that don’t have the peel off seal around the lid.

We use it one on other buckets like that with our sugar supply- we can a lot, hence what warrants it but the holes like on yours are open, and then we use it. Hold the handle of it towards you and open up. You already do what we do however

I mean I have worked in a few bakeries and the buttercream comes in similar buckets. I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to use it as you are. Where you basically break the seal of the bucket and then use the bucket opener.

We had to do this at Home Depot in 2020 the large containers of wipes had this types of lid, I recommend getting tinsnips for the cutting part, those things are magical, we didn’t have the buster though so id spend 15 minutes with a pry bar and a screwdriver 😂

I use something like this at my work. our buckets are smaller but even with that I do still have to cut the perforations first. it's more for prying it up than breaking those seals. a box cutter might work better than scissors tho

Hmmm... one lasst suggestion. Try going directly at the holes with that second way you held it, since i had noticed the two sides were different. If the buster thing is meant to open buckets, you would think they'd account for that. By any means though, if all else fails, you do whst works for you ^-^

I work in construction and absolutely hate those openers. They work but you have to put way to much effort into it. I've always had to put it on the ground and use my foot to hold it down while prying it open.

That lid is made to use a tap for, you pull the inner and outer cap and put on the spout to pour. Use wire cutters to do the slits if you wanma take it off that way, it save your scissors

So the lid has a lip and the bucket has an edge/outcrop which goes almost directly underneath the lid. If you get the hook of the lid buster onto the bucket section then the lid won't open since you aren't actually moving it. I'd check that it was in the right place, but maybe the bucket lid is just tight and would need two to keep the seal broken in two places.

I think you have a 2 in one which means that you have to cut the seals first then use the tool just like you did in this video. If you had the 3 in 1 it would cut the seals without having to use scissors or a lighter and open the lid and even seals the lid back on.

The way you’re using it is correct though, you’re supposed to break the seals first. The tool is only to prevent injury when opening the lid.
