I am 64 and the first ‘adult movie’ my parents took me to see was 2001 A Space Odyssey. I have NEVER expected any film by any director to give me FACTS

A lot of practical space stuff going on in that movie vs Star Trek or Star Wars with complete space travel BS.

Cool video, always nice to see how "real life" differs from Hollywood. I'd heard that "Maximus" was like a composite character, blending several Roman generals into one fictional character. And...Maximus Decimus Meridius just sounds too cool when delivered by Russell Crowe!

This breakdown of historical inaccuracies in 'Gladiator' was eye-opening! It's fascinating to see how filmmakers blend fact with fiction for dramatic effect.

Real life can be boring and slow with people changing over decades not months or weeks.

You left out the part where Commodus renamed Rome after himself, or that he had special arrows made with curved tips so he could shoot the heads off ostriches. You also left out the part that when he was murdered, it was by a wrestler who shared the same bath with him, because Commodus kept a stable of women and men for his own pleasure. The gladiators were so popular, they were paid to make product endorsements, just like today’s sports stars. If Gladiator had been made to show Commodus as he really was, that alone would’ve made the movie too crazy to show. As it is, they made Gladiator almost too historically inaccurate to be worth watching. Not my favorite movie by a long shot.

It's still my favorite Russell Crowe's movie. It's not accurate, but I loved it.

I always thought the projectiles were pots or some kinda container filled with like oil or something, not cannon balls. 🤔

I dont realy coment on stuff like this because i dont see the point but! Nowhere does it say that the movie is based in history or made from a true story. Movie makers use a topic and basicly do what they want with it to make it exciting wich is a good thing aslong as they dont lie about it, wich they dont in this case. Unless they state it is a documentary personaly i dont expect it to be true, sure some parts may be true. This is a great movie for those who like these types of films and i personaly enjoy it alot. Best wishes from Sweden!

Commodus was bad, you did have to make up things about him to make him into a villain.

It is a movie created for our entertainment, of course it contains historical incorrectness yet, it contains more truth in 10 minutes than the bible in its entirety. Aurelius is well known for his philosophy and achievements. His son Commodus is ultimately responsible for breaking up the empire.

Where on earth do you get your "facts"? Because Commodos was ten times worse than he is in the movie! Also he had three sisters, not just the one. He abused all three of them, one was sent in excile for having tried to poison him. He took part in gladiator fights quite often but no one was expected to acutally beat him, I guess you could say Maximus was a stand in for plenty of different men. When the movie was made Riddley Scott made it clear that he did not try to make it historically accurate ON PURPOSE! Who is stupid enough to believe a Hollywood blockbuster is going to be a source of historical fact, anyway??
