@@johnhammel6277 hello John, that’s fantastic that you chose the Kpm, I just bought one and it’s a wonderful bike. The coolant can go for many miles before needing changed, I would not worry about it for 3-5k miles depending on use. Most motorcycle coolant today is designed for aluminum engines and will be fine, my personal preference is Honda coolant, it’s inexpensive, readily available on Amazon and is good coolant. Congratulations on the new bike, if you buy from Venom tell them Herbie sent you

@@DogMania Hello, no I don’t think the copper washer needs changed every time. I would probably change it after 2or 3 removals. I don’t know the size of the washer but I bought a kit from Amazon with an assortment so if and when I do it again I’ll note that. Thanks I look forward to getting the KPM also 😊

That's a good idea to do. I do that myself on older cooling systems but mine is still like new with only 3400 miles on it. If you change it regularly then your system should remain pretty clean.

Oh my goodness, Uncle Herbie saving my life again! Thank you so much for this video, I accidentally added engine ice to what I didn’t know was already in my KPM. I have a bit of limited mobility like I’d told you, do you think a shop vac would pull that radiator coolant out a bit easier without harming anything? This video is incredible as always, thank you for the incredibly informative and insightful/educational video
@herbiesgarage681

Honestly Nicole, unless your Kpm is overheating, I wouldn’t worry about it. And the next time you want to do a coolant change you can switch it out at that time. To your question, if you pulled the drain plug on the engine and you would get a majority of it out with only only a residual amount left in it. I don’t think a shop vac would be beneficial at all though. I’m not familiar with the Kpm but you should only have to fill into the coolant reservoir bottle, if you didn’t start it yet you could pull the tube from the reservoir off and drain the bottle out.

I have a KPM 200 and found lots of information about this bike from your videos, thank you, Sir. Do you need to add the water coolant in some period of time, let say once a month? I got my water coolant decrease by itself and I found that it get wasted through the hose on the right front bottom of the engine, I think this is the drain hose from the weep hole (but I’m not sure). I’ve changed the water pump seal but still found water coolant drop from that hose.
@herbiesgarage681
Ай бұрын
@@superkepin I have had a small amount of coolant decrease in the tank over time on my KPR, so far that hasn’t happened on my Kpm. The weep drain is usually an indication of a failing water pump seal but honestly I never had any issues with my KPR other than having to top off the coolant reservoir maybe once a year. It didn’t loose much. Thank you

Would it be possible and easier to just pour an extra bottle of the new coolant fluid through the system to flush out the old coolant for us who aren't mechanically inclined? 😬
@herbiesgarage681
Жыл бұрын
That possibly would work but I’m not sure if the radiator on the right will flush, it could possibly flush out but there’s no certain way for a person to know unless you do it like I did. With that said do I think if you do it your way that the cooling system will still work properly? I would say yes most likely it will. The most important thing when changing the coolant and refilling is to raise the the rpm’s occasionally to push out any air in the system. It will overheat if air bubbles gets trapped in the system. But don’t be intimidated, it’s not hard to do.

@@herbiesgarage681 I'm planning to get this or the kpm 200 bike soon. Do you know if the manufacturer load these bikes with some coolant within the bike? Bc I was thinking, maybe I just use Honda Coolant fluid right off the bat since that coolant is more accessible. And when I need to service/refill the coolant fluid, I can just run to my auto store down the block and get some Honda fluid.

@@Dabby724 well kind of, the coolant that the bike comes with seems to be good coolant. If you don’t have any overheating problems you should be good for a long time the way that it comes. Eventually you may have to replace it but you should be good for several thousand miles I would think

I used engineice and got done doing a 15 minute ride and the temp light came on is that not a good one to use?
@herbiesgarage681
Жыл бұрын
I've never used engine ice before, but it is made for motorcycle engines I believe so should be okay. Is it prediluted or are you supposed to mix it with distilled water? There are really 3 things that would cause overheating after a coolant change. #1 Fan quit working #2 Coolant level low #3 Air in the system. Air in the system is most likely the #1 cause of engine overheating after a coolant change, if it wasn't over heating prior to the coolant change. Did you leave the cap off of the coolant overflow bottle after you filled the system and let it run until the fan came on? That is a very important step. By leaving the cap off while the engine is running it will allow any air in the system to escape. When doing this you have to raise the rpm's up occasionally to push the air to the surface. Hope this helps

I just did a quick check and it does look like it has a fuel filter attached to the fuel pump inside the tank. It looks very much like a filter you would see on an automobile fuel pump only smaller. It should be an easy replacement to do although I wouldn’t think it would need replacing for several thousand miles unless you have bad gas in it or something

Couldn't you just flush the system with water to get the old stuff out?
@herbiesgarage681

You could flush the system with distilled water, not tap water. But even doing so you will have trapped water in areas and when you fill the system it will be diluted to a certain extent. It probably wouldn't hurt to do it that way but that's up to you.
