I was on that ship, as part of Westpac 93 as a part of a F14A Tomcat squadron called VF24 Fighting Renegades based at NAS Miramar. Life aboard the USS Nimitz from day to day for me was like the movie "Groundhog day".

I was onboard in the 70s when it was commissioned. It was out of Norfolk at the time, being built at Newport News. It was CVAN 68 at the time but I think it is CVN now. I'm a plank owner if that means anything. We spent months of sea trials back and forth from GTMO and did a NATO tour later. Our division worked 16 hours a day 7 days a week when only the aft mess deck was open, and lines were usually over an hour. We tried to feel pride in what we were doing but we were treated like absolute shit by our DO. Good and bad memories, but I don't regret it.

I served aboard the USS Nimitz with CAW-9, VS-33 Screbirds air anti-submarine warfare squadren 88-92. I was all over that boat & its flight deck! We lost some crew members (R.I.P), but it was still alot of excitement & memories each day! Steel beach picnics anyone??? Beef RIBS on the boat were not served to enlisted E-1 thru E-6! Once in a Disneyland fantasy, blue moon. . . .crab legs were served! The gallery with he blue floor tiles is Chiefs & Officers mess quarters not inlisted as your showing.

All us grapes on the Saratoga never got any respect on the flight deck.. they had to listen to me though..I was the Fuels QA supervisor on the deck if the Saratoga and I had to shut flight ops. down many times for water or sediment in the fuel.i had an admiral looking over my shoulder when I was testing it many times....the memories!! And that food looked better than what we were eating.... powdered Milk, bug juice, there was only 10 soda machines and nothing in the ships store compared to now.i served in the wrong decade.

Hate dating myself ... but ... I was a young Aviation Ordnanceman onboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) while we shared pier 12 with the (then) brand new USS Nimitz (CVN-68). We, onboard the "John Kool" were tasked with assisting the our counterparts onboard Nimitz in setting up workspaces/bomb assembly/magazine stowage, etc. It was a good time. Anyone remember ... the Nimitz motto winner? "Bohica ... our screws never stop!" Now that was when America ... was America!

Damn, commission in 1975, that ship is almost 50 years old. Is that a record for oldest ship? I'm from Boston and Old Ironsides(USS Constitution is here) and maybe that is the oldest active ship in the navy idk. I think Nimitz was first nuclear powered aircraft carrier and it still going strong. But USS Gerald Ford not joke but is that even in service yet(are they still checking her out)?

@@bobsit1945 there's no way I could be stuck in the bowels of a ship and some never see sunshine or get fresh air and if you work on an aircraft carrier you're not allowed on the flight deck unless you work on the flight deck and I can only imagine what life must be like in a submarine! Stuck inside of a large paper towel roll! Hey you have a nice day!
