Mari, I have been stuck in quite a difficult situation and your PCT videos have been my go-to source of therapy. They put me in such a great mood and remind me of the beauty of the world. It has been my dream for some time now to do a long backpacking trip and your videos make it seem more and more possible. Although logistically I don't think I'd be able to do the PCT in one continuous hike, I'd like to do sections of it each summer (I'm a teacher with summers off) Thank you for your inspiring, raw and dedicated work!

Thank you both for sharing and allowing me to vicariously journey along the PCT with you guys these last months. Whilst you were hiking in real time I was preparing my house for sale in El Cerrito (East Bay represent!) whilst also going through a divorce! so your videos were a welcome distraction. Thankfully the house sold and like you, I had moved back home to New Zealand in late Sept. If you guys are ever in Whitianga hit me up for local hiking tips and I'll buy you a beer or three. That's a great catch-up, thanks Mari. The positives you've shared about your post PCT 'rebuild' will help future hikers get a better idea of how they can resettle and adapt after such an epic adventure. Every hiker must find those final days/weeks hard, coping with end of season weather, pain and exhaustion. It seems as if 'antipodean hikers' are less susceptible to post trail depression. Perhaps their wind down is less sudden than for hikers who have less time and distance and reasons to recover. You had things to look forward to once you were off trail too. In the future I would love to see videos about your Wellington explorations, but then I'm biased because I grew up on the Kapiti Coast. I hope both of you continue to have a cheerful and safe lockdown which should soon begin be phasing out.

I loved this journey Mari, I binged it during covid then followed the final weeks as they were released, I'm in Aus and your journey has me contemplating a backpacking trip in nz in the summer, thought I'd start smaller than the PCT and dixie from homemade wanderlust was planning to do a trail there before covid. I've been doing day trips around SA knocking off most of the longer trails most which link through the heysen trail. I did my first overnight trip this year. Thanks for the covid inspiration xx

Perfect timing, who knew that when your iPad was damaged (I think that I have remembered it correctly) that it would have lead to the way that your videos have been released. What next? I could suggest walking Te Araroa but you might be over long distance trekking for a while but what would be interesting, seeing you have some Japanese ancestry would be to do something in Japan. Are there even long distance treks in Japan. It might involve staying in small town inns and doing something outside the Anglo-sphere, maybe meeting your long lost relatives.
