I really enjoyed your topic in this video Christian and I whole heartedly agree that students cannot acquire English just by passively listening to KZitem English videos - they really need to practise. Your analogy of language production and learning to ride a bike was spot on. As ever, don't give up, look after yourself, stay safe and keep on teaching mate.

A wise man with a really right opinion about learning (Put here something that you want to learn) KZitem wants people's attention because is it money. The video should be short, with a clickbait title and without payload like English with Lucy. Did you try the education platform like Udemy?

The problem is rooted in the post modern society Cristian. The so called "Liquid Modernity" as Zygmunt Bauman desribed it . Everything is liquid, not stable, nothing is permanent, whether valuies or interests. People want quick fix because they don't want to work hard and long. And the same is with the language. But your channel is a good one, belive me. Keep doing it!

Nicely put Christian. You’ve summarised what a huge amount of data and analytics couldn’t explain to me. Why do some of my videos get so many more views than others. Bloody obvious after watching this. The videos I started out with “what do my students need” get very little and the ones that begin with “what is attention grabbing” often get more. Thanks for the insight sir!

I had a British teacher in one of the schools in my country and when I asked when I would be able to speak English like a native speaker he told me - "never" :D He asked me why I wanted to speak like a native and I couldn't reply and then I told him: "I don't know". For me the best way to learn English is by watching TV series or/and movies.

Excellent analogy with learning to ride a bicycle or as a former Linguistics Professor I had stated it it in a similar way. Learning any language is a "Life Skill." Her analogies included: learning to walk and run, learning to sing and dance, learning to swim and breathe correctly while in the water, learning to use tools with hand-eye co-ordination. Once learned well, it is not forgotten. It is now part of you. Even in an environment of an intense mono lingual language training course of 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, for most students it takes at least 6 months to have a good grasp at communications. Some people do very well with oral communications and some do very well with the written communications and some do rarely well knowing both. Then there is the hearing understanding and the ability or formulate the thought process to effectively communicate in either the written or the spoken language. I dare say, learning another language is a lifetime learning experience. Even though I am a native speaker of two languages, English and German, I am still learning new information and adeptness in these languages. That 30 year rule may well be true and as with any Life Skill or profession, there is always something new to learn for an improvement.

Christian, a friend of mine had recommended your KZitem channel a couple of months ago and I started watching your videos regularly. I really love your contents and your way to communicate yourself to the world. Probably you won’t read my message but I hope some assistant will might do it. I’d like to tell you that I completely agree with your statements here on this video but the last in which you said we would never be as native speakers, in spite of the fact that it’s the true, made me feel a bit sad. Last year I went to Dublin with the goal of becoming a fluent speaker. Basically I had to come back to Brazil because this pandemic and my dream was interrupted by the time I left Europe. Since then I’ve been searching and following contents that make me grow, including English knowledge, as an upper intermediate student. I would like to congratulate you for your bravery at teaching online. I consider that sharing knowledge by teaching - no matter what sort of - is one of the most important things in human existence. I hope you keep doing your brilliant journey. See you.

Very thought provoking and true. Great video. I was looking into creating a language instruction website, 2D visuals style, was looking around and came across your video by accident and enjoyed it. All the best in 2023! (I'm a former teacher of German, English as a Second Language, and French.) PS There are so many KZitem channels out there that either just talk on and on about learning language but don't actually teach it, or channels that simply repeat phrases without any framework which is fine but also not enough if you're serious about learning a language. And so many junk websites out there!! The ones that attract attention by saying "forget all the grammar you were ever taught, it's all wrong" etc, just for clicks/views. I also would never rely on KZitem for a living, that would be the business of clicks/views, not instruction. When I watch a good language instruction website (I have a fave I use for another language) I don't even notice the number of views or followers but the quality is very obvious and it is recommended by a lot of professors to their students. Keep enjoying languages everyone :)

It's true, youtube works to satisfice the algorithm, to get our unlimited attention, and make a profit of it, but we rarely see it in that way. It is quite sad that content that is so talented and interested is not as popular as others that only talk about gossips or nonsense challenges. But how can we change that?
