I did 11 years in 4 different prisons and I remember when I first went down I was really in my feelings thinking I can't do this much time and as I started getting adjusted I met this youngster 17 years old and he told me he was there for six life sentences because he killed his two co-defendants that were minors. Now after hearing this it changed my entire perspective. There are certain things that will always stick with me and one of them was I used to rent travel DVDs and the chaplain was a lifer and every time I'd see him. He always had a smile on his face and he would always tell me. Looks like you're taking a vacation renting these travel DVDs. I just laugh and say yes. But a lot of these guys doing life. They're not down and hopeless. It's very humbling seeing someone who's never going home live out the remainder of their life with dignity and respect and humility. It's truly changed my life and the fact that they would do absolutely anything to have the kind of problems that we have out in the free world anything

Damn man 11 years ? That’s a long time . Unfortunately I’m probably gonna do a 10-15 year bid and can’t wrap my head around the fact I might lose everything How do you settle in with that? The possibilities of losing your loved one( spouse ) .. years of life being taken away I’m trying to man up and prepare myself to accept my fate
@scottallison4615
Жыл бұрын
@@elijahsalgado282 I'm so sorry to hear that. That's really a hard thing to accept. Id say this. Right now you're still free and with them so love them really take advantage of the time you get with them in the present. Idk if you pray or not but I've seen God work miracles. If it does happen where you have to go away for awhile then I would recommend not talking about your time with others esp if its in a way complaining about the time cause like I said in my own experience there's gonna be ppl doing forever in prison. Find ppl non political that are doing a lot of time. It will constantly remind you no matter how long it feels you still have an exit date. This is what I did. I hate to say it like this but eventually you forget things on the streets. Not like kids and spouse but you'll forget the feeling of freedom. Everyday was a routine. Last advice and the most important make a strict routine and stick to it. Workout! Learn discipline. Having a routine absolutely saved my life in prison. Having things to look forward to like putting in an order for a TV or putting in order in for magazines or CDs or music or commissary having something to always look forward to make your time go faster. So definitely put some money aside so that you can have your TV and your sweatpants and all your comfort items. Any groups that they offer or college courses that are free sign up. I took a welding course and today I'm welding making Good money and finally providing for myself. It's hard to explain man. The first year was the hardest because you miss everything. The second year was even harder because that's when you lose everything. The third year I was kind of numb the fourth year I accepted it and every year after that I did everything I could to keep my mind occupied but it is possible brother

For some, being released from death row to gen pop can be traumatic in a way, going from a quiet routine to noisy chaos. In 2003, the governor of Ill. commuted all inmates on death row to life sentences, and there were some adjustment problems. Some of them were terrified. I worked at Graterford for 5 years before transferring to another institution for a promotion. I was contact staff, but not a CO. I retired from corrections 20 years ago and I recognized a couple of the people in this video. For me, prison is a distant, almost unbelievable, memory. What hit me is that these guys are still living it full-time.

Never sitting a lounge chair and falling asleep from too much turkey & grave while watching football. Never again being able to get into a car, drive wherever the hell you want and listen to music. I had the same exact tooth pushed back in a fight.... I wiggled it back into place and to this day it is a shade of two darker than the other teeth but at least I didn't loose it.😂😂😂

@@ursulatroxler7428 not really. Humans are some of the worst life forms that ever lived. You earn your respect when you are alive. After you are dead you don't care about respect

My father has no gravestone. Since 1975. He was never in prison, though he should have been. My family knows why.
