I feel so sad listening to Turner, and I can't stop thinking, how is he adapting outside prison. And if he is ok. Does he still have to be aggressive to protect himself. Is his life still in danger. Does he feel lost in society. Is he in a community where he can be himself, without compromising to survive. I've read some of the comments, and I've got the idea, that Turner is being watched. I feel, that Turner needs a second chance to live a healthy life. I can see that he has awesome talents, and he can support and help others, building better communities. He can also get involved in protecting the lifes of animals. I hope you will be able to have another interview with Turner. Thank you so much for this video. 💚🌍🌱

It's very stressful. You end up learning how to hear what's happening even when you're asleep. They call it 'sleeping with one eye open'. If you're handsome you're a target. If you live nice you're a target. If you don't join a gang you're a target. There's no escape. Sometimes you dream you're at home and then when you wake at 5am it's back to the horror. If you try to commit suicide the wardens beat you up. No counseling.

When I was a 18 year old skinny police Constable I accompanied a detective to Pollsmoor one morning. A lot of prisoners were in a big holding area, I think waiting to be transported to court or something. Anyway, when I walked in, in full uniform, they all erupted into a crazed frenzy, cat calling, dry humping the bars etc. It was quite unnerving.

There are SO many Numbers in public now, and it's frustrating to us as random people just trying to go about our day. In Table View, they're constantly approaching people to intimidate people out of their phones, money, bags, etc. A 28 who's stopped me twice in Sunridge has taken money and a vape from me, and I'm already struggling to afford food and other stuff. He also tried to grab my knife and constantly calls me his friend, tells me I don't trust him, where do I live, etc. Cops, security, Neighbourhood watch, people walking past - nobody seems to be actually doing anything to not only help people living here, but these Numbers as well. The guy was wearing better clothing than me and I was still a target. Ex-cop told me Cape Flats gangs just spread to Table View, so yah. I'm really hoping that interviews like these can bring some actual change, because law enforcement just isn't bothered at all.

@@thabangmpitsang5603 I was thinking that the best way to prevent all of these things from happening would be forcing the prisoners to work, if they have a job and are productive then both the prison and them would have more money which would put them in better conditions so they don't have to be all crowded in a cell with no security, also they would have something productive to do rather than just getting in fights and raping each other all day, ironically the vast majority that complain about their living conditions would protest forcing prisoners to work even though it would be the solution, imagine if prisons rather than having no budget they were able to hire way more guards and they were able to give each prisoners their own cell and other amenities, in fact if you allowed prisoners to work you could even let them work in the outside world as long as they are wearing hand and feet shackles all the time, the reason I mention this as I said before is because people think this is horrible but think that forcing them to work to fix this would be the worst thing in the world lmao, it's like when people talk about the mental health crisis in the US but then think that forcing people to be institutionalized for being crazy is horrible and should not be allowed.

I think Pollsmoor should be demolished, and new, hopeful, humane and positive buildings & institutions should take its place on that land, like free or low-cost public rehab clinics (for both prisoners and normal members of public that can't afford the absurd cost of private rehab in SA, caused by 'overregulation') to help prisoners break their drug addictions, build churches & mosques & libraries for prisoners, green areas, more oversight of prisoners to prevent violence and abuse, more humane conditions, facilities for prisoners to reform and get life skills ... institutions designed to treat people like human beings ... the way Pollsmoor treats those in it, society wouldn't allow animals to be treated this way. Re-design for better oversight to prevent corruption and prevent abuse and violence. Prisoners are human beings. Pollsmoor treats everyone in it worse than animals ... it's a dark and evil relic from Apartheid, and it shows everywhere ... it's a portal to hell and a playground for the devil to openly work poisoning communities (and the continual cycle of prisoners entering and leaving means the devil's tentacles reach deep into surrounding communities ... every prisoner who "changes" and becomes more dark and violent goes back into the communities, unemployed, usually drug addicted) (whether one is religious or not is immaterial to the argument - the same argument applies if we regard the devil as a metaphor) ... I think Pollsmoor may be beyond just 'cleaning up' or 'fixing' or 'rejuvenating' ... it's irreformable. The walls and corridors and Apartheid architecture and Apartheid bricks breathe and speak some dark parts of Apartheid history; it was built by the Apartheid government so they could do evil things to political prisoners in darkness and out of sight of civilization; the facility is 'haunted by the demons of the past', whether one regards that metaphorically or literally. Tear it to the ground, and consign it to history books as something that should never have happened. Start fresh, clean start. Something designed for human beings, for life and light that gives hope (though still strict enough as a prison that we of course aren't just making luxury facilities for criminals). I don't know how ideal facilities for prisoners 'should look', society should put a lot of thought and collective debate into that in re-designing something new, but I know Pollsmoor is not it. No prisoner should ever be abused. Pollsmoor is a failure of and pockmark on our society. Let's stop just regarding such things as 'normal', these conditions should not be normal in any civilized society. Allow conjugal visits so prisoners can get rid of frustrations and better maintain healthy relationships & support systems with those on the outside and facilitate re-integration.

Sounds like u want to send these scumbags to a wellness clinic and not have them locked up for raping and killing a 2yr old innocent baby girl. With all due respect sir, I urge you to visit Wynberg Magistrate Court on any given day and see what goes on there. The men that end up in prison are hardened criminals who should be thrown in acid and not sent to a cozy facility (as u state) to enjoy the things that their dead victims no longer can. Spending the resources to rehabilitate is by far a waste and should be spent on the survivors to try and get their lives back to where it once was. And I thank you
