James Bulger’s killer Jon Venables is reportedly hoping to be freed from prison and is working on a presentation to the parole panel after being officially granted a new hearing, according to The Sun. Venables was convicted of killing toddler Bulger in 1993 when he was just 10 years old. He was released at age 18 in 2001, but sent back to jail in 2010-2013 and again in 2017 after being caught with child sex abuse images on his computer. He was refused parole in 2020, but according to a source Venables is now “buoyant as he believes this is his best, and possibly his last, chance of freedom”. But should child killers ever be given the opportunity for parole?
