I live here in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I grew up up here, but all of my maternal and paternal are from Mississippi, Alabama.. I grew up with my GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER up until my freshman yr of high school. Born 1906. He was marvelous.. my town is along the trail of the under ground railroad. In fact, the Northside and Westside to this day, there's original safe house's scattered through.

Just seeing that dear grandma brings tears to my eyes, and I'm a man. As a Diasporan, it's hard to really wrap my 21st century mind around this phenomena. We are 150 out from legalized slavery, yet here we are. I wonder what has happened to the dear elder at the beginning of the video?

The good thing is that the spirits have been angered for centuries now and will rise. Those who have shown black hearts against these people and their descendants will know not a moments' peace, haunted, daily; tortured by lesions and afflictions, dropping dead from heartattacks, strokes and aneurysm, made infertile, and be hated by their own...until they make right the wrongs.

@@godsaysyes2131 i have been to Mississippi many times. My wife and were going to buy a home at Gulfport but hurrcaine Katrina wipe out the area. A plantation is simply a farm that grows a particular crop. I do not look down on people liveing as share croppers . My grandfather work as a share cropper in Oklahoma during the depression. In the 1940s and till his death on 1976 he was a migrant farm worker. That means he moved to work in feilds chopping cotton, pulling cotton, cutting broom corn, harvesting peanuts, hauling hay, and picking fruit. I live on 20 acre farm, and raise cattle on very small scale, and try to garden as my health allows. It may suprise you to know that black people owed plantations in the towns of Boley, Clearveiw, and Lima Oklahoma till the price of cotton collapsed in 1928. Boley had three cotton gins. Many blacks and whites worked for these plantations as share croppers. The use of the word plantation to denote a form of slavery is inappropriate. Share cropping is a hard life, a unfair venture. But it is a choice. It took a collasped cotton price to cause a exodus from the farm to manufacturing centers of Chicago and Detroit to improve many peoples lives. Be impoverished is not exclusive to black people. Be trapped in a share croppers life is also not exclusive to black people. Please read about Boley Oklahoma. Thank you.

Michael Thomas Hello Michael, I didn’t refer to anyone as a slave. When I said they still exist, I was referring to the plantations. Also, I was speaking of the sugarcane plantations in Louisiana. Yes, they are still here and standing tall. Yes, there is a huge house up at the front of the property followed by 3000 ( three thousand) acres of sugarcane fields. There are rows and rows of houses occupied by the people who work the land. The houses are owned by the sugarcane field owners. I have no idea what or if the employees pay rent for the homes and nor do I know their wages are for a days work. I know the video is about Mississippi but was I referring to plantations in Louisiana. They sugarcane plantations still exist and the people who work the land live in the housing provided by the sugarcane field owners. I never posted anything about slaves. I am sorry if anyone took it that way. Also, I am not ignorant of the fact that blacks owned plantations, that was not my point, I was saying plantations still exist. The living conditions for the people working the land are not good and the wagers are low. Those were my points. I never said only black People work there. I see many races and ethnicities working there all the time.

She is probably an old mis-classified Indigenous woman as few to zero Africans came off a boat to North America whose descendants were not shipped back to Africa during the BACK TO AFRICA movement. The slave owners/labor camp overseers kept meticulous records so, believe it, that if this beautiful elder's family post emancipation proclamation was descendant from those African ship kidnapees, she would not be there on that plantation...she would have been shipped to Sierra Leone or Liberia.
