@@alina1548 I’ll be looking into getting a cochlear implant since I have profound hearing loss. Do you feel like it was worth getting? I’ve been reading a lot of mixed reviews about how people feel after getting it. Thanks.

My fiancé is a cochlear implant user. He has the N7 processor. He was one of the first 500 people to get the implant in 1995 when he was 6. He mostly now uses his implant for music, movies, tv or watching is ipad. He don’t like to use it around people I Don’t Know why. I always wanted the CI. But I don’t qualify because my speech Recognition without my hearing aids is too good so that’s why I don’t qualify. My fiancé was born deaf, he was born without hair inside his ears. I was born hearing but had a lot of ear infections that went untreated because I never ran a fever or complained my ear hurt. So my parents sometimes didn’t know until it was too late. I had tubes 3 times in my ears and was not successful. My parents found out I had hearing loss after I failed a hearing test at school. I got my first set of hearing aids in 2002 when I was 8. I started learning sign language at the age of 8. I got deaf Ed support in 5th grade after a parent teach conference they found out I was in process of failing. I had my first set of hearing aids from 2002-2007. Then I got my second pair in 2007-2011. In 2007-2014 I had two pairs of Starkey hearing aids. In 2014 I switched to Phonak sky Q sp 50. I had those from 2014-2019 then I got Phonak Nadia b90 sp I had those from 2019-2021. My dog just destroyed my left hearing aid. So I had to switch back to the Phonak sky Q hearing aids.

I have a moderate hearing loss Av and I wear hearing aids but I had a tympanoplasty last December first before getting new hearing aids.. got my hearing aids after my post op hearing test.. surgery is hard but it’s worth it.. Recovery for me was a cotton ball in my ear for the few days, had to be careful not to get water in my ear for a while… and also, hearing aids are supposed to sound natural! If they don’t, theres an issue with the sound quality.. I am a musician so i make aure they are natural.. I know exactly what natural sound quality is from a hearing aid because i started out with the phonak lyric hearing aids which are uses your ears natural anatomy to amplify sound, therefore sounds very natural.. unfortunately I wasn’t a candidate. I know exactly when the sound is wrong.. im a musician so im extremely aware and i do not tolerate the slightest distortion.. I have widex hearing aids which is the moat natural on the market due to its processing technology.. Dammn you need to get your device adjusted if its tinny 😬

Lauren you are an inspiration. Thanks for the great explanation! I have heard that in time the "robotic" element can get better.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes! The sounds of the processor get better over time and practice listening with it!

This was very informative thank you! I went from 96% hearing to 36%. I had been having vertigo everyday since September and so they found out I have a sudden hearing loss in my left ear. We are trying steroid injections and if that doesn’t work they’ll do a cochlear implant

Greetings from Dublin Ireland. Many thanks for your excellent presentation. I’m going for an initial assessment in August. I manage quite well with hearing aids but I wish to do better. Being hearing impaired is a huge challenge. Thanks again Jarlath

Your speech is very good dear 😊 . My 2.5yr old son with moderately severe hearing loss is on HA since 4 months and is doing very good . Though SLPs here in India said not to go for implant. I’m worried about his speech clarity. Can you please give your inputs.

How much better is this than regular hearing aids?
@hearinglauren
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandie! Thank you so much for your question! Unfortunately, I cannot answer this from personal experience as I have only had CIs. Cochlear implants and hearing aids provide very different listening situations. Hearing aids amplify sounds whereas cochlear implants transmit sounds electrically. Cochlear implants are an option for when hearing aids do not provide benefit to people! In order to receive a cochlear implant you must show that hearing aids do not provide any benefit to you!
