I enjoy watching videos of these small survival kits for ideas. I carry a small 'ditch kit' in the pocket of my pfd when kayaking. In case I get separated from my boat. It's geared towards starting a fire, signaling for help and surviving for a night.

Lifeline makes a LOT of kits, all affordable and decent quality. Seems like the company changes up the waterproof bag on this one every few years. Almost never see a map compass in pocket kits! I'd swap the space blanket for a mylar poncho, plus add curved needle & thread, ferro rod, tinder or birthday candle, Fresnel lens, and the Doug Ritter RSK mini fixed blade or a Swiss Army Classic pocketknife if space permits. Thanks WS! Keep an eye out for the older lime green version of this kit!

I have been watching for that kit I remember seeing one a while back and I didn’t buy it because I thought it was the same. There is definitely room for a small fixed blade like the RSK or even room for a victorinox camper model if you just keep it in the dry bag portion. It would be nice to have a large compass that you can actually use to navigate I agree. A Mylar poncho would also be a great swap out! I like your lists of contents they are always good!

Just rewatched this. This kit is a very good start. My additions would be; folding knife, mini multi tool, poncho (helps with hypothermia on the move and ive made water wells and survival stills from them), tinder, mini bic, ferro or sparklite, more medical, water tabs, sewing kit, beef up both fishing kit and medical, mirror, more light cordage like unwaxed dental floss, paper, pen filter, glow stick, tiny flashlight, bolion packets, tea bags, sugar, salt, pepper, small ration bar like the tiger bar, hard candy, gum, bait, large needle. For the nay sayers yes im sure i can get all that in there. It might require repacking some things but it could be done. You may not be out just overnight, it may be days before youre found or find your way back. You may be injured and have to wait. Also season must be factored in, most kits are ok for warmer months but people throw that same kit in their pocket and go out in winter thinking theyre protected 😮.

Yes your right winter is a whole different animal I would not recommend a kit like this for winter that’s asking for trouble. If you have enough downed wood and a good fire to sit around all night you might be ok otherwise your in trouble

First, I thought 'Oh no, not another useless kit', but then I watched this again. The usual hiker, runner, or whoever is into outdoor activities, already has some stuff to start with. A pair of shoes, providing cordage, a decent jacket providing warmth, maybe a lighter or a SAK as EDC. The phone normally has a flashlight function and the keys could be used to 'cut' as well. With that, this kit is a good basic supplement to get you through the night. I never understand the fishing kits, though. How many people get stranded for weeks on a lost island, maybe except Robinson Crusoe, Tom Hanks, and the guys from 'Lost'?
@whitetailsurvival2430
Ай бұрын
Ha ha that’s true. Sometimes the fishing kit is slightly unorthodox for a 24 hour kit, but in a pinch, you could use the fishing line to sew with or as extra cage cordage in a pinch, if you have a needle with a large enough eye, there are some extra uses for some of the stuff you could use a hook to fasten together off body material and clamp the fishing weights on the eye side of the hook to keep the hook from slipping off and the barb could hold the other end. I don’t mind this little kit. I do like having a decent flashlight to save on phone battery for if you need to conserve battery in the case that you would be able to find service or satellite reception for the GPS function on your phone, I believe all of these kits are an extension of your every daycarry

@@whitetailsurvival2430 Mmm kind of agree with you as I have been down similar rabbitholes too but objectively speaking I think it's better to start off with a knife (a Mora or SAK with saw blade), then a military grade poncho, and a canteen with a cup (military surplus are cheap). A lighter and some kind of cordage cost pennies and can be upgraded later on. I obviously bought more than that, like a $20 Suunto compass but at a later time when I could afford it. All of those items and more are good quality and durable.

Why do you hold thing up to show how big they are... when there's a ruler on your mat? I know how big an inch is, but i have no idea how big your hand is.
@whitetailsurvival2430
3 ай бұрын
I literally only do it to break the singular view up plus some people don’t know how to accurately decipher an inch out by seeing it plus there are some ways that showing it in your hand makes a huge difference. I could tell everyone that a Medford praetorian T is a 8 15/16 inch knife and a benchmade crooked river is alittle over a 9 3/8 inches. Judging just by the tape it seems like the benchmade is way bigger but in fact the Medford is a giant compared to it. There are multiple ways to look at things. I’m in the construction field so I agree measuring is ultimately the best way to see a size but some people want to see how big it is in hand even though that ruler is right in front of me!

@whitetailsurvival2430
Ай бұрын
I believe the bubble is left in there to equate for temperature and atmospheric pressure this obviously is not a super expensive compass so this gives companies a way to build a compass that works and isn’t going to cause the compass to malfunction when it’s cold or high altitude. If the bubble effect the way the needle moves then it’s most likely fine. I might be able to put it out in the sun and the bubble might go away. It’s normally fairly cool in my basement until winter. There are a lot of factors that could cause that bubble to show up or disappear

That’s great! Thanks for the opinion. It’s hard to judge what people want because some people have told me they want me to spend more time on each part giving my opinion about each separate piece plus options for additions to the kit and what o would do to change it for the better. I have way more people telling me to take more time on them than less. In all reality it would be impossible to do it the way I do in that short amount of time. Try it once and see how long it actually takes. You would have to pre unpack it and put it in front of the camera and then go over the items as fast as possible. That’s boring to me. That’s the best part about KZitem you can probably find exactly what you want to watch on another channel! Thanks for the input I will take it into consideration in the future.
