The lift is now being refurbished, and if you are familiar with lifts on the metro network, you will notice there are some differences here! The outside indicator is an LCD screen with an image of the new Tyne and Wear Metro Class 555 train in the background. This is the first LCD screen used on a Tyne and Wear metro lift. Another thing that may be changing is the lift company involved here! Nexus have used Kone for over 20 years (with 1 exception) but this may have changed here. You can clearly see a Schindler logo on the barrier but does that mean this refurbishment was definitely done by Schindler? Well, only possibly. I say that because Schindler have the escalator maintenance contract with nexus and so these barriers may have just been in the station already and normally used for escalators. I think we will have to wait until the lift opens to see if it is definitely Schindler, still Kone, or something else!
