Maybe games are better when they grow over time. If the updates are free, I am happy to wait

I definitely don't mind. Having continual free updates like they do for no mans sky, as long as the original base game that they release is actually decently fun to play, and preferably not too buggy

That's kinda like a live service game but it's free content that is not a couple of skins or a DLC because the developers are passionate.

I feel like the only way this game (If it has multiplayer in the sense of nearly everyone plays on the same server style multiplayer) would need stuff like decent combat, a way to keep people from breaking all your stuff when you are offline, maybe even a way to make settlements with NPC's people can start in. There are many hurdles beyond just making the game interesting sadly and people will always go full anarchy Minecraft server if the multiplayer isn't limited in some way or there aren't in game rules that keep it from happening.

The potential this game has is insane. Just looking at the absolute core features theres already a ton of ways to play. Play solo or with a group, wander all over looking for epic monsters or set up a little village with other players, maybe it eventually grows into a huge city. You could be a farmer or a trader or a mercenary. Assuming theres some level of pvp involved you'll have tons of player politics. Do you try to cooperate with other people or wipe them out? Do you and your friends find a huge forest and attempt to hide from everyone else? Then consider the possibilities if the game had real life game masters who could spawn natural disaters or hostile npc factions. Its all exciting to think about and I can't wait to see what they do.

I’m assuming there will be some kind of player inventory, but larger resources like chopped trees are going to need to be carried by hand. I wonder if there will be wagons drawn by rideable creatures that can transport large amounts of resources, that would be so cool! Imagine a town or budding city needs resources for buildings, someone could be paid to drive a caravan to that place, picking up resources and maybe even trading on the way, assuming there are people to trade with. Idk, could be really cool. It’s all speculation, but I do hope something along those lines could be implemented

We definitely know they keep their promises, that itself is very promising. By that logic, people shouldn't be hyping the game up either. He's not complaining, he's speculating possible issues the game could have, which I agree with unfortunately. The chances of this game having no game play hook apart from climbing mountains for a view are quite high going by NMS.

I think the real thing that could make this game suck would be allowing the same crap that goes on in ARK, which is a grief fest. I only got any enjoyment out of ARK by running my own server. I very much dislike PvP crap, and hope they make this game similar to No Man's Sky in that regard. That's really the only concern I truly have. I really doubt it would launch similar to No Man's Sky, as they probably learned their lesson. You never know for sure, though. As far as content, have a well designed ecosystem would be neat. It would be interesting is resources can be depleted for a while if you abuse the planet too much. Perhaps the best system they could make for a game like this would be player generated content. Villages and towns should all be only player built. The Sims series of games would be a good template. People like to play virtual house, and if done right, could be quite immersive. Tending the fields with your friends in order to have a great meal while the night's entertainment would be playing cards, or perhaps odd sports games would be interesting. Of course you would have to go on hunting trips as well. I guess what I am saying resource gathering and crafting are a staple now. Make it different and interesting. I just don't want to see it change into a griefing wargame. If it's going to be that, I'll pass.

Eh... No Man's Sky is so heavily focused on "BIG BIG BIG" that it seems to be used as an excuse for the lack of depth regarding every system in the game. I'm afraid that the same will be true with Light No Fire, with all of the RPG aspects (character-creation, stats, armor, weapons) being barebones because "Wow, look at how BIG the game is! :D"

NMS suffers from 2 large issues: - The game is cheap - The game designer is unexperienced. For a sandbox game of this scale you need not a single enthusiast but a team of game designers each with their own area of expertise. And a lot of expensive servers. Still the game is vastly superior to the abominations like Star Citizen where huge budgets are spent on unnecessary things which barely add any extra fun.

what concerns me is this being a NMS demake. notice the animations for the flying mounts. they take off just like your star ship does in nms. it looks like as if they were to take all the complexity of nms and boiled it down to one planet. it worries me that they are also using the same engine. originally it was crygen, but so heavily modified it became its own thing. but even before the last update, the nms engine was getting pretty topped out. i really hope the have a far better render distance, and better LOD optimizations and if this is going to be a multiplayer game, and it behaves anything like the current state of nms multiplayer, this game will be DOA. there are still many , far too many, day 1 , bugs still present in nms. things like the constant memory leaks to all the ways of duping. it concerns me that they been testing light no fire features in nms for years. things like the capes always felt out of place in a space game. same with staffs. but seeing how they been working on the cloth mechanics and seeing the same cloth mechanics in light no fire trailers, concerns me because it will mold these features to be like what we already have in nms. i think this goes way back to. all the back to the pet update. which i thought was also weird for a space exploration game. but seeing how you have flying mounts in both nms and light no fire, made total sense. sean murry proved he could make a big hit with a small team. good job mr murry, but you also prove why you need quality control, and play testers that are not your customers. however it is a fair trade. to put up with jank you pay for, but also get the free updates they provide. its a fair trade off. and if nms is any sign of how a game can change and evolve over time. i hope what we see now of light no fire, also be something that gets better over time. i do hope mr murry learned his lesson about releasing a unfinished product. they already got 5 years into it, could be another 2 years for all we know. but we do know that now they have all the time and resources they need to make it right. and on day one, when it does come out. it will be highly judged. they have a chance to knock it out of the park if they do it right.

man..... I followed the story of no mans sky, got acquainted with Seans story and Hello games. After learning about the whole thing, it seems as though the general consensus from players is that they are happy with NMS. It took a long time to paint the initial vision of the game, but it seems like Sean delivered? I cant speak from experience of playing NMS, but after watching several vids and reviews, it seems to me that Sean is doing his very best to try and deliver on the ideas expressed. Video games are an art form with millions of moving pieces, action packed playable movies. I dont like the idea of being pessimistic when it comes to LNF. The devs seem to me as though they LOVE what they do, theyre likely DYING to deliver the very best project they can and want to make true all the promises they make when developing a game especially at such a large scale. From what ive read and watched, many people are happy with NMS, it had a rocky start but they kept at it and worked on it for years adding content and never charging for expansion packs. nowadays that seems to be the way things go, devs release a title, then add content and charge extra, or offer skins and other things and charging more for the content. NMS (from what ive read) has never done that. If I go to the Steam store and look up the game, it has one option to buy the full game for 60$ and thats it. It was released in 2016, developed all this time and they never asked for another penny from gamers. Seems like the game was released with a roadmap in mind, but maybe it was a little bit too ambitious to deliver all the content in a timely manner. Its not like players ordered food and it spoiled, the main course just came later. I say all this as after watching the whole story regarding NMS unfold, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will purchase LNF, it will likely not be fully fleshed out and as time passes, more content will be added, the game will grow and I will grow with it. NMS di not end up being abondonware. They kept at it and the game is good. So why be pessimistic? 60$ isnt a ton of money, there may, or may not be paid expansions, the track record of NMS leads me to believe there will not be. But hell... even if there are expansions later down the road, they delivered when it comes to NMS as is evident by the many reviews of the game, though there will always be some who find things they dislike and thats ok. Not everyone has to love everything. But why be pessimistic about it? Let the devs cook. Yes this game is crazy ambitious, proc gen worlds are in fact generally kinda boring as time goes on and things get repetitive, but look at it this way. Super Mario Bros 1, in its time, was groundbreaking, highly addictive and fun. We move onto SuperMario 64 with a 3D world, and it was absolutely amazing. I have no doubt whatsoever, that the lessons learned in the development of NMS, will be applied to LNF for an even better and more enveloping experience. People will complain at launch, as people do, and ofc there will be things that are not perfect, maybe seem lazy or repetitive. I think its pretty safe to assume that Sean actually likes his job, is basically fulfilling a dream of creating worlds for the masses to experience, technology more than likely is the limiting factor, not the drive to create something spectacular. Point is, encouragement is always better than "negative-nancying" or assuming the project will fall flat on its face and not deliver. I wish Sean and hello games the best and look forward to purchasing the game and experiencing the world theyre trying to deliver. My outlook will not change unless the game is released and left to die without updates for more than 6 months.

I'd say the game in trailers looks better than it's possible to make. We all know the system requirements of Ark and that you need an expensive server to host merely several tens of players. We also know that serverless multiplayer in NMS is barely playable and the NMS discovery server works no better. So for the new game to look like this it has to be a monthly subscription MMO or HG won't be able to afford servers.

Hello Games only mistake with nms launch was partnering with Sony. Cant really blame them for that though since they needed the capital. Just like every triple a producer these days, Sony cares more about sucking every last dollar they can get out of a product than they do about giving their customers a good product, so of course Sony pressured Hello games into stepping up the hype for the sake of preorder sales not giving a flip whether or not the developer could actually deliver on that hype in the time Sony gave them. If you're gonna give anyone heck for nms launch issues, put it where it belongs on the backs of greedy corporate hacks who have been doing their best to destroy the gaming industry. Developers like Hello games who actually care about their product are te only hope we have of ever seeing decent games again.
