So flood fill works if the object you're cutting is a SOLID piece of etching as a frame, but if you have text on that frame or any other graphics anywhere else flood fill does NOT work to speed up your projects. With my regular scanning etch, my project takes 10 minutes to burn, with flood fill enabled for the same project it went up to 13 minutes. You're better off using OFFSET FILL mode.

Nice video and good tips but for this particular shape....you really missed the mark! If you had tried the "offset fill" function, your run times would have been far, far shorter. Most people overlook this feature. It is only typically best for symmetrical fills.

With flood fill it ends up with lines in my engravings. Like the lines didn’t match up where the laser came back to fill. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
@sharingknowledge9941
2 жыл бұрын
I have experienced the same with it leaving noticeable lines if my lines per inch is set too low while using flood fill. Offset Fill, which I didn't cover in this video but will in a future one is an option that should prevent the lines. The preview animation really helps determine the best settings once you figure out what each one does. It allows you to see exactly how the laser will operate and help catch any potential problems. Typically I use flood fill when it allows the later to follow a fairly uninterrupted path.

@@sharingknowledge9941 I'm just a few weeks in with the learning process, but being a science teacher it's been fun rollercoaster. I've thrown some amazing things through it, but the fine details have me miffed. |I have read recently that the stepper motor has to line up with the measurements of the lines per inch, otherwise the remainder gets calculated and shows up as a banding line when overlapping occurs or a line left. When you get to a lines per inch measure that matches with (was it 16?) the stepper amount your problem should be resolved.

@sharingknowledge9941

Flood fill does require the machine to be set up really well (belts tight, no play in the axis) . If not, it will leave gaps in the burn area. I have not seen it do this when the machine is dialed in correctly though. Not saying it won't but I haven't seen it personally and I use flood fill on most of my projects.
@J-D248

@@sharingknowledge9941 My machine is setup properly. I think what's happening is as the laser moves to different areas the wood shrinks and expands causing it to not get exactly lined up when it resumes in a previous area, usually on larger burns.

Can you help? Will this work on my linear designs which have a transparent / vector background. I was thrilled to see your video and saw it reduced the engraving time by half in the preview box but when I tested it - the time was not reduced even though it said it was in the preview (I timed it and retried three times). Any help on this would be really appreciated.
@sharingknowledge9941

The vector may hold lines that are not needed by the laser to actually perform the burn on your graphic. If possible, try tracing your graphic in light burn and then burn the trace (that will remove any unneeded lines). I would be curious to know if that helps with your issue or not. If it doesn't let me know and I will attempt to recreate your issue and see if I can determine a way to help. Thanks for watching my video!!

I don’t get people that make videos on KZitem and they have your volume turned so high you cannot hear what they’re saying if you want to do a tutorial and explain something turn the fucking music off
