Great review. I’d love to see you highlight some camera hop gadgetry if you come across any. I’m always looking for new ways to mount my gear to camera.

Studying this setup now that I own a nova. I see you now velcro your CL and another transmitter (what is it? zaxnet amp?) directly to the nova. Any other changes since? Did you have to modify the shangri-la bag at all? And what's your harness model?

@@chinpou I use Dual-lock for the CL3 transmitter. The little unit next to it (also Dual-loc) is the Zaxcom FDP2 bandpass filter which goes on the TX antenna. I recommend using one to reduce RF spray in a tight sound bag setup. They are available tuned to the block of your choice. I didn’t do too much to the Shangri-la. I think I cut off the handles and some superfluous straps. I tuck the top zipper flap inside the main compartment. I use a light weight Portabrace harness. I recommend lobster claw style clasps for the harness mounting on Nova. Bigger clasps or carabiners would grind the Nova’s face.

Not a location sound guy/boom op... but... I get that a bunch of gear has to be in front of you so that you can see and control it. But why isn't some heavy stuff like a battery on your back to counter balance the weight on the front? With a good harness, you can carry several pounds/kilos on your back effortlessly, so wouldn't putting some stuff on the back of the harness even further improve comfort, even if it doesn't reduce the total weight carried?
@HubLocationSound

I'd be into exploring the idea... One potential issue with having the battery mounted to the back of the harness (or to the harness at all) is the harness is tethered to the audio bag since it it supplying power - which means removing the bag from the harness would require unplugging the power or always taking both the bag AND harness off altogether. Maybe if someone could find a clever way to make the harness+bag easy to take on and off, it would be nice to even out the weight... like a Sound Sandwich Board.

Good thinking if you work on set and you have a cart where you put your stuff but in my use case I've to drive with the harness on because it takes too much time to remove it and put it on again. Not recommending it though 🤣

Are the knobs too close to your chest? Also, What is happening with that AES i/o connection?
@HubLocationSound

Hi Ken, The knobs aren’t too close for me, but it did cross my mind to stick a thin layer of foam to the inside of the mixer for comfort. That AES connector is a custom job. Just covered the connector with a couple layers of heat shrink.

@@HubLocationSound Hey Jim, Interested in making a custom version of that cable same as you've got. Did you route just AES 5/6 from there into your Camera Link? Where did you have your cable made?

Nice setup, I've been looking at zaxcom for a long time but I can't justify its price with the actual work I've, nonetheless they have a cool workflow. Your setup tries to maintain the lightweight and ease of use that nova gives you, I can see it working wonders indoors, but would you risk it outdoors battling the elements? 😄

It’s a hybrid setup. So yes it stays in the bag during transport and of course if it’s raining/snowy, it stays in this bag/covered. But I wear the feather rig outdoors regularly - really any chance I get.

@@POLARICED in the bag. Once I deploy wireless to cast, I stash the bag somewhere nearby. If I anticipate fiddling with lavs I’ll put a little organizer box in my pocket with bits (tape, furs, etc).
