We noticed there are not many reviews on LightHeart Gear's newest Rain Jacket made from SilPoly. We think there are some nice new features that hikers may like, so sharing our observations here.
LHG uses a bit of a different design approach. They use a single-layer waterproof fabric instead of a multi-layer "breathable" construction. It's a different useage philosophy...are you trying to stay completely dry or are you trying to stay (somewhat) comfortable when you inevitability get at least a little wet? In the end we just care about performance and staying (mostly) comfortable when we inevitability get wet from rain and/or sweat.
LHG features on the New SilPoly version:
- Polyester fabric (absorbs less water than nylon)
- material not breathable and relies on venting via opening zippers
- 20 inch waterproof zippers on pit zips
- waterproof front zipper and no zipper flap
- internally taped seams
- 2 external hand pockets (no zippers)
- 2 large internal pockets
- 6.7 oz for Men's LG
- does not pack as small as some
- a bit noisy
- a loose fit
- no waist cinch cord or back of hood cinch
- Men's size LG: 6.7 oz
