Really interesting tutorial, thansk Colin! I'd never used this effect before, but I do use a lot of radial filters in LR for 'relighting' images. This gives so much more control - mindblowing stuff!

Yep, this was new to me in PS. Great way to create or change atmosphere of images. Custom texture channel - yes, definitely interested in learning about that!

Typically I would do this sort of thing using exposure adjustment layers and masks to get more control but this is definitely a super quick way to achieve some nice lightening effects! I actually never knew about this feature within PS so might try it out on future edits, could be a time saver in some cases!

I am literally mind-blown about how I did not know that this lighting technique exists. I just realized that I haven't fully explored Photoshop so much despite knowing how to use it in the past four years. Everyday I learn something new about Photoshop haha. Thanks for this!

LOL!!!! I've been doing this is video editing and after effects, etc. for years and kept wondering why it wasn't available in Photoshop!!! IT WAS AND I NEVER KNEW IT!!!!!! As a further editing technique, I tried this on a Duplicate Layer and adjusted the opacity of the copy layer to finesse the effect. Worked very well so thanks for reminding me about this great filter.

Great tutorial! Lighting is oxygen to any photograph. I’ve loved using this but understand it better after watching this . I, too, would like a part two! Why did you pick the color red for adding texture?

Because the subject was biased towards red, you could use any of the color channels though.
