Gosh this was so great you guys! So many wonderful images I won’t even try to pick a favorite. Just so much fun watching you all getting after it. A couple years ago I did a storm chasing tour with one of big companies. It was fantastic and I got lots of pictures I really love and it was a great experience. But so much driving to get in position for tornado warned storms all over the Midwest and into Canada. 500-800 miles per day. Well this same company does a southwest monsoon tour every year and apparently there’s much less driving. That’s very appealing. Anyway thanks for another great video guys!

Very nice images. Have you tried shooting storms from the top of South Mountain? Definitely a different perspective. Whatever freeway toward Phoenix to Central Ave and go South. There's a park entrance and fee of ?. There used to be an annual "hill climb" race up the mountain. Have fun and refuse to be a burned cookie in the oven. That's what I call living through Phoenix hear. Cheers

Epic photos from you two. I a so zealous, you have so much open area to shoot storms from. Im stuck shooting from my garage, even though I do get some great shots. Can you tell me what lens you use and the aperture and timing. I use a 20mm with 9.5 aperture with a 12 second shot with 1 to 2 seconds in between. Most of mine are at night. I would love to storm chase with yall someday....keep up the great pics. BTW, the shot of the lightning hitting the mountain was top shelf......

Thanks Tye! My settings are all over the place haha. It all depends on the light, and if I’m trying to catch lightning, or a storm timelapse. The key is leaving as little as possible in between shutter and interval.

Really really enjoyed following this stuff. Even with years spent in Arizona, I don't think I ever properly appreciated the pure magic of the monsoon weather for photography. In truth, not much beyond sitting on the back porch with a glass of something watching the lightning storms. The photos that came out of this trip have been super inspiring and helped me completely see a whole different set of photographic possibilities in Arizona for future visits back home. Thanks for that and the stunning work. Really exciting projects, and has definitely tickled my interest in learning more about perfecting storm-based photography and settings.

Question, when you were shooting for lightening at 10:00 in video. Would having in M and setting f/stop and shutter and switching to Auto ISO be better so not stopping? Use exposure compensation as well. I am learning myself, very beginning of trying this and would like to know your thoughts sir.
@PereaPhotography
3 жыл бұрын
Hey John! That is definitely another option. The issue with auto iso is of course, noise. It’s usually the last thing I change. I’d much rather have a longer exposure time and wider aperture before I change my iso. Another thought. As it gets closer to night, I tend to remove any auto settings and go full manual, adjusting iso and shutter speeds manually. The reason is that lightning can drastically change exposure, depending on how close you are and how big the actual strike is, and the camera tends to over exposure in really low light. Hope that helps!

My favorite lightning lens is my 70-200 f2.8 S lens. It does great in low light. But I also use my 24-70 f4. As far as general landscape, I use a combination of all of my lenses. My favorite would have to be my 14-30 f/4 S.
