She went to high school in Scarborough. It's very different there than in like the downtown part of Toronto. Also, 2006 was when she graduated high school. That was when topics surrounding sexuality were juuuust starting to become more common. Not saying you're wrong about the improbability tho. the queer people around her were were likely all closeted because of the aforementioned details
