Technically Jani was way above Syu, more precise, jumping notes, complexe paterns and regular fast articulations . Syu on his edge got a lot of dynamics and sound more organic and the sound of his guitar is a screaming thunder. So Syu "sound" better but Jani was just technically much better.

Wrong.Syu is way more accurate here and in general Janni is sloppy as hell And his vibrato belongs in the trash.I can't believe a professional guitarist has such a horrendous vibrato You clearly don't play guitar or have no idea about the instrument.Because syu has more clarity and control over the instrument.Janni is just playing really fast till the point you can't tell the mistakes.And he plays a lot of quintuplet patterns that are really sloppy.Moreover his picking hand is awful compared to syu
@neoclassicalfanatic8416
3 ай бұрын
Also syu can play the "jumping" patterns you're calling which are called string skipping easily.He was improvising in the two takes.If you listen to his material in this era you will how much better he is technically and musically compared to jani.Even their bands are very different in quality with sonata being an uninspired boring power metal band and Galneryus being a band with an identity
@jordan951

@@neoclassicalfanatic8416 Hm thanks for giving context, but as a guitare player you have to be honest and in this battle Syu's playing is quite messy and unprecise. I respect that you prefer Galreynus over Sonata. But to have more context, Sonata's album "Unia" for exemple is a masterpiece of musicality and have a very special identity. And more gmobally, as a singing professor i can tell you that Tony Kakko used to be technically way above Galreynus singer, and above many other btw. By the way, i respect Syu and Jani, and i love those 2 bands also. For me you are giving a prejudiced and non objective opinion here. I respect that you love Syu's music, but if you ask any objectif kind of AI to determine the winner here, he would have pick Jani. I apreciate your contextualisation but you miss objectivity in this case.

Jani had the advantage here because he had time to preplan his solos. That being said, it clearly shows. I think Jani demonstrated just about every technique in his arsenal, going from sweep tapping to blistering sextuplet alternate strumming. Speed is off the charts. Unfortunately, his vibrato is ghastly. But that's seriously about it. Syu is a great player & even in early Galneryus days he was still a monster. I also don't want to go too hard on him because at the end of the day, this was improv'd. Syu's melody always shines through. That being said, that's all I can really say there. Again though, had he had time to plan solos, this would've been much more equal. Syu just keeps reiterating the same patterns of ascending & descending quads like Yngwie Malmsteen. The chromatic tapping bits sounded *okay* but out of place for me.
@dav9503-i5u
Ай бұрын
there's nothing chromatic about Syu's tapping patterns here, it's all diatonic, plus I heard Paul Gilbert and MAB style 3nps patterns and pentatonic fours not just Yngwie's 4 note ascending or descending groupings

@@SwitchMusicS7UActually it's a fact that Syu said in advance that he was nervous going up against Jani. Also, because Jani had time to practice a solo is the exact reason why it sounds better & fits the demonstration. There aren't that many musicians that can improv a solo better than preplanning one. Had Syu practiced solos for this demo like Jani, I have no doubt it would be just as good, if not better than Jani. But as it stands, Jani had the advantage. Syu just kept playing the same 4 note descending/ascending pattern sixteenth notes (Yngwie influence) & then through in some choppy sounding tapping that didn't really fit at all.
