Slowed down music is incredible in the ways it can shift the tone of music to a much more reminiscent/nostalgic/somber tone. Ive never knew exactly why these emotions occurred when listening to such songs but I’m glad I watched this video because it has once again resparked my love for liminal music and liminal spaces as a whole

I'm going to branch off of your conclusions about the liminal aesthetic and add the points of absurdity, irony, and existentialism. When I first heard of the Backrooms, I thought of it to be a great critique of modern existence; because the average modern workplace or school is an absurd space that does nothing to serve humanity besides being an empty space to temporarily dwell in during scheduled hours (the best example I can think of to highlight this is a waiting room or a trip to the store, you're not meant to stay there). I'll also pair this with the definition of the word "limen", the word derivative of "liminal", "the threshold; the dividing line between noticeableness and unnoticeableness of stimulus." I think the absurdity of these liminal spaces, the pointlessness in the construction of them is one of the essences of the aesthetic. What's ironic about it is the conflicting desire to enter or explore such a place due to curiosity or the positive nostalgia of actually being in a similar space. Even if the environment is desolate of other people, the emptiness itself is often the attraction; hence things like the reverb and echo effects referring to the loneliness/emptiness mentioned in the video. When these spaces are explored, there is no end to achieve. It is an absolutely absurd experience, much like existence itself, and of course that can be seen from an infinite number of perspectives. A running theme I've come across is the common deception of an exit, and a new or broadening conception of infinity. So *TL;DR, I believe some of the main elements in the aesthetics being explored by our generations today are nostalgia, emptiness, irony, sincerity, absurdity, the uncanny, infinity, a general hazy confusion, and existentialism* (weirdcore TikTok compilations are an example I recently found although they're somewhat crude being made by kids/teens). Which I think sort of overlaps with aesthetics of older generations as they explored these same concepts in their own mediums. I'll also mention that I've been making a running series on my channel called "complex_archive" where the point is the exploration of various maps made in GMod that are themed as liminal, and the relationship between liminality and madness. I'm not trying to advertise this, I'm mainly trying to explain why I decided to write a short novel about this in the comments lol, but if you're interested in this kind of subject, give it a watch. Funny enough, it starts with me triggering some music in the map. Have a good one if you read down this far. Oh... good video btw.

A vibrato effect is also a common thing in liminal music (like on the piano in six forty seven). It kinda brings the feeling of an old damaged cassette tape wich fits pretty well with liminal spaces.

Really quickly, not to be that person, but it's Anemoia (Nostalgia for a time one has never known.) that you're referring to in the beginning, it's commonly confused with liminality :) (Great video otherwise :>)

I feel it's worth noting the reason that Everywhere At The End Of Time is so nostalgic, for those who don't already know it's context. Everywhere At The End Of Time is an album that explores the effects of memory loss, specifically the effects of Alzheimer's Disease; the regression of ones ability to recall their past and understand their present. Each track was put together with the process of nostalgia and remembrance in mind, with the first stage being an allegory for an aging individual recollecting their youth. The reverb and echo metaphorically representing the distance between the present and the past, and the static and distortion representing faults in memory or logic that are caused by old age and the beginnings of Alzheimer's. With each stage developing off of the last, the music begins slowly devolving into harsh noise, with only the occasional recognizable melody reminding the listener of just how much they have lost. Liminal Spaces, despite stemming from vastly different points of origin, are often paired with The Caretaker due to being thematically compatible, covering the same general concept of misremembrance and isolation. But experiencing The Caretaker's music is not something that you can fully experience and appreciate just by listening to bits and pieces of it in passing. Seriously, go listen to some of his stuff, even if it isn't Everywhere At The End Of Time, you will not be left disappointed.

Why is it recommended when I search for liminal music for sleep? Either way if this video was not suggested there still is not anything good so. Either that or youtube deletes my search the second I press enter so irritating I am done.
