Wow! That is ****ing incredible man. I am never at any point sitting here nervous about whether or not you will be able to power out the voice that this aria requires. Your voice is not just loud, it is loud and sounds good. That is what i call a big opera voice, and who doesn’t like a big opera voice. It is very satisfying to hear you sing this… bravo! 👏 🌹

Lanza did NOT have a big voice. I heard him live a number of times, including two Royal Gala Performances, where Di Stefano showed Lanza how a Tenor should sing, he took the evening by storm and Lanza was not happy. I would opine that this singer will not sing this role often, why sheer size, he is a very big man, this role has killed Tenors in the past, some of whom were very famous, but I have to say he does have a Voice and a very good voice, not like Kaufmann who always sounds like he is bringing up a bucket load of Phlegm. My Grandfather sang in many Otello's at Covent Garden as a Leading tenor in the Chorus, from 1909 till 1940, but whilst training in Italy in 1898 he saw Tamagno in the role in Turin and later at La Scala, he said he a very strong robust upper register, but he was the Creator and at that time was the best, he heard and appeared with Zenatello many times whom he said was an outstanding in tenor in many ways Voice Power and Histrionically, the same he said of Paul Franz, but little is said that Caruso in the Albert Hall in London concerts on two occasions sang the Dio and Ora from Otello before 1910 also on another occasion the Duet with Destinn and Ending in 1914, Martinelli told my father in an interview that Caruso had learned the entire role before 1910, but was not able to perform because of Contracts at the Met, Burrian the Wagnerian Tenor also said about this, Martinelli then said when he had appeared at Covent Garden in 1919 for some incredibly succesful performances with Destinn, he was asked when would Caruso return to London, Martinelli said I believe that an Otello will be his role for the 22/23 Season for his first performance of that role, of course it did not happen. Caruso by 1920 had the voice for even Tristan which he had also learned with Burrian in German, by 1913, that also was another possible twist to Caruso's Career he was expanding his dramatic roles. He had the voice and Power, that was known. My grandfather opined that Zenatello and Franz were superb, Melchior was made for the role but he could not master the Italian, but even then I read my grandfathers notes of his Esultate's in 1930/31 and 39, that they were sung from the very back of the stage over the chorus and Orchestra with a Voice of immense power and was able to carry farther than the back of the Auditorium, the only other Tenor even to the present Day who sang it from the back was Martinelli in the 37 Coronation season and his Voice also had great Carrying power which cut through the mass of sound easily and was also heard at the back of the auditorium by its quality and not its strength he opined he was the finest Otello he had heard up to that point, which also included Zanelli Merli Fusati and O' Sullivan Widdop and about a dozen others. It was noted that Del Monaco said the role needs a strong voice not necessarily a big one, but one that has Carrying power, he sang his Esultate's from the front in London but at the back in Milan, my Grandfather greatly admired his style Acting and he opined that Lauri Volpi was correct to pair Del Monaco and Martinelli as Tenors, although my Grandfather said unlike the two he talked about Lauri Volpi was a Complete Bigot in his opinion of Himself and in his treatment of Colleagues he was a rather distasteful man, rude with a extremely bad temper, Martinelli who did get on with him, never said a bad word about him but did criticise his Fascist Leanings which made Martinelli like Toscanini many enemies in Italy where Opera was Politics, my Father heard Lauri Volpi do Otello in Rome in 51 I believe with Caniglia, he had seen Martinelli do the role in London, but thought there was no Comparison Martinelli was a REAL Otello in Voice and Histrionics, whilst Volpi made efforts on producing very Large sounds that sometimes were very crude. Can someone tell me if this very Large Tenor had a substantial career, because I find it amazing that he was not better known. I heard Domingo do the role and he was bloody awful and very overrated . McCracken was a fine singer, so to Vickers whom I actually met in London and my father interviewed him a couple of times, what a Generous and kind man he was but he was also very straight and straight to the point, my Grandfather was very old but he certainly liked the Great Canadian , I am now 87 fresh from seeing a very Good La Boheme at Covent Garden last night. Diolch yn fawr i ti, Nos da.

@xavieralberto1176

Limmie, you have a truly exceptional voice - a great voice. Still I feel that in this aria there is room for improvement in interpretation. Listen to what Vinay, but especially Domingo does with dynamics and subtle accentuation of words: the result is very dramatic. For this role you have a far greater voice than Domingo- so go for it. Good luck!

Very interesting and beautiful voice (voice is wonderful, although he needs more squillo, specially from the pasaggio onwards). The conductor, however, doesn't deserve to be called conductor... How is possible to be so MEDIOCRE?

Non mi piace affatto. Vocalità severamente ingolata, moderna . Interpretazione semplicemente inesistente. Questo bravo ragazzo purtroppo non rispetta lo spartito. Negli ultimi anni come leggere una partitura e’ diventato un mistero profondo per i giovani cantanti e i loro colleghi direttori d’orchestra… Quel gâchis. il vecchio

I can't agree. Nothing " modern" about the vocal production, the style. In fact, this is singing more typical of the 1950s. Baritonal in timbre but free and ringing on the high notes. A bit like Ramon Vinay, but freer top notes. And I don't know what you mean about disrespecting the score. I hope he doesn't get stuck doing nothing but Otello. It's been a while since there was a voice this suited to the role.

Underwhelming.
