Break Stuff was a huge song in the 2000s. Nu-metal really became mainstream with bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, System of a Down, Slipknot etc in the 90's to mid 2000s. I mean you can look at what happened at Woodstock because of those bands you'd understand just how massively popular they were back then. That has changed over the past 2 decades but with that being said, rappers also tried to jump on board it because it was considered the next coolest thing to rap and pop back then, and back then was a different time. We kind of moved past the "all metal is satanic" era, into the rebellion era for metal and because it was a different time back then, I guess that kids also felt the freedom to enjoy those bands as well and from this music video alone, I get the impression that they're showing off the fact that anyone can be a fan, anyone can be angry, and anyone can get along, and that is exactly what nu-metal has done as a genre. As much as the song itself was about just breaking stuff, it was a huge outlet for people to express their anger without actually breaking stuff. Which is what metal is for many people. Korn and Limp Bizkit had a song together in 1998, called All In The Family, which was almost like a rap battle between the two bands, and it was entirely a joke song but it was big enough to lead to the two bands touring together, and creating the Family Values tour, which both bands participated in until around the time of this music video. Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland has always had different costumes and makeup designs during his songs, because he is an artist and was an artist before he was a musician, and studied in art, so as the band blew up, he wanted to continue his art, so he did the makeup and honestly, he is such an amazing guitarist.

Limp Bizkit was often labeled as 'the most popular underground group in the world'. Take a closer look at the video if you want proof. The sheer amount cameos in here are staggering---especially considering how many people in the video were from different bands: Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem (plus his daughter Hailie), Roger Daltrey from The Who, both Jonathon Davis & David Silveria from Korn, Aaron Lewis from Staind, and Flea from RHCP all make an appearance in the video. The non-musical celebrities include comedians such Seth Green, Richard Lewis and Pauly Shore, actor Alex Baldwin, several Victoria's Secret Models (including Lily Aldridge), former Yankee Derek Jeter, not mention a truckload of professional skateboarders (including Bam Megara, Bucky Lasek and Tony Hawk's Son, 'Hudson' Riley Hawk).

@karl_alan
27 күн бұрын
You're joking, right....this is from possibly the most censored era of tv....there were like 30 words cut out of the song in the video she's watching. By comparison today's pretty lax, but in the 90s everything was censored.
@Sparda11222
27 күн бұрын
@@karl_alan In the 90's they used to censor stuff for kids and everything running during the daytime. It makes sense and it was in good taste. But because people weren't so "sensitive", the content was a lot more vulgar. Now we censor stuff for the adults and not just the vulgar stuff. Like content creators using "unalive" instead of fucking dead to avoid being demonetized. Like somehow "unalive" is less stressful for kids/adults or something. There's a difference.
@karl_alan
27 күн бұрын
@@Sparda11222 not really...there's still adult content that says whatever they want, but anyone trying for all-ages to hit the widest audience is censoring...it's essentially exactly what you described from the 90s. "Unalive" is just the new "heck" or "darn it" where the language has shifted because "oh no, the actual words hell and God-damn-it might somehow corrupt or traumatize the brain of children." There's essentially no difference...it's just new to us because we grew up saying suicide, just like the boomers grew up actually saying hell until tv censorship in the 50s changed that language. It's just motivated by culture's post-pandemic mental health focus, instead of Christian outrage...either way culture has always been trying to overprotect the kids, and the languages change with each generation because of it. Vulgar channels are still out there if you're looking for them, but they obviously don't get as much circulation since they have a narrower audience. Just like daytime vs evening programming, except they obviously can't change youtube by time of day, so they have to go by age grouping. Also, good taste is a matter of taste. Personally, I thought the level they censored daytime in the 90s was in poor taste because it was obviously reactionary and essentially talked down to, coddled and overprotected the children, treating them like they couldn't handle anything, and like censoring it all so they wouldn't hear about drugs, sex or death would somehow help them navigate the world.

@@LoCoAde87 I guess it also depends on the country you lived in back then. I was living in the fucking Balkans :)). It was "fun".
