Great Insights. My main mistakes are :1. Not personalizing connection requests 2. Making requests to new connections without building a relationship first.
@MastertheJobSearch

Lots of people make this mistake. But it is so simple to just look at someone's profile and refer to something they've written, said, something you have in common and reference it in your connection request. And the best thing is, this little mini-conversation allows you to start building those relationships. Good luck!

I try to watch other and see what they are doing. Always a great idea to look at your profile from an outside perspective. I didn't think about the SEO/Keywords on LinkedIn. Actively seeking work lol The worse I see is the "objective" section of a resume this seems about the same IKE!

Aw yes! SEO is also a big deal on LinkedIn. For example, if you wanted a new client to find you on LinkedIn, you need to put the search terms he/she would use in your summary and headline.

Most people aren't super engaged on LinkedIn. I use it for about 15 minutes each morning, but I'm a Career Coach. Only about 40% of LinkedIn users go on the platform daily. I think it is worth having even if you only spend a few minutes each week. It just helps when it comes time to look for a job or find someone with a similar career that you need as a resource.

@MastertheJobSearch

I've had several LinkedIn contacts keep their previous employment experience in their headline, particularly if it is something noteworthy, or if they are in graduate school. I know one many who has ex-Uber Executive on his headline. I was a Fulbright Scholar several years ago and a TED Speaker, both of which are impressive, so I keep those in my headline even now. LinkedIn is an awesome tool- I hope it helps you get the notice you are looking for.

Having a custom background image on LinkedIn is definitely key for STANDING OUT 😊When designing your LinkedIn cover photo, just keep in mind that the placement of your profile picture changes on mobile and desktop, so you’ll want to make sure that none of the important information on your LinkedIn banner (such as call-to-actions, contact details) GET HIDDEN by your profile picture 😉

I don't know if it's a mistake or just an irritation to me. I hate that LinkedIn MAKES me pay for seeing who reviews my profile. I will shut down my profile every so often when there a a lot of reviews and I can't see who it was. It's like paying a ransom and I don't like it.
