You do realize that Chester was not a founding member. They had a different singer initially. There is an interview of Chester talking about Warner Bros. approaching him to take over the band and kick Mike out and Chester shut them down and said this is Mike's band. Creating a new band would be like forcing Microsoft to change their name when Bill Gates retired.

To all the crybabies whom are still caught in this rhetoric about the band's name, they should firstly go check out what Shinoda said in the interview about this. Listen, when you have a band that was this successful it’s because of the creative processes behind it. Just because it’s no longer the exact same line up.. Not to diminish the importance of Chester.. the creative process is still there. It’s the identity of the band, not just the singer. In that aspect, the name should remain and chart a new path.

I remember I watched a therapist comment on it, and while she had her own entitled opinion she said one of the most important things regarding the "moving on" process of LP especially within the "Artist/Fans" relationship. It is way to selfish to expect LP to move to on, but "gatekeep" them on "Keeping" the name. Specially when LP decided to do it with the band members that were actually open and willing to do it after 7 years of processing the loss of Chester, after 7 years of coping. Regardless of what you all were expecting, as fans we either like it or not, but we have no right on "deciding" whether they should have kept the name "Linkin Park" or not or any other decision made to make their comeback for that matter. It is their own dwelling process and their own way to see the path forward.

It is Linkin Park, the remaining members can do whatever they want with the band and the name. Chester decided to exit this world years ago, the others worked just as hard for the success and they are entirely able to continue with the band. Why should they start at the beginning? They want to play their music and that's perfectly fine. So many bands continued with new singers, Linkin Park can do the same.

I'm sorry, but it's just a stupid opinion that they had to change the name because they changed the singer: It would make sense if Chester was the creative leader of the band like Kurt Cobain in Nirvana, but Chester was one of six musicians who each contributed equally to the band's music. The fact that many fans love him so much is cool, but that doesn't make Chester = Linkin Park. You don't think, for example, that Nightwish should have changed its name after Tarja was fired (although some old-school fans think so), so why should it be different in the case of Linkin Park?

Hmm you make a good point. 🤔 Maybe I don't feel the same about Nightwish because I started listening to them with Floor.. so now, to me, Floor IS what makes Nightwish Nightwish and when I've listened to things with Tarja, it just didn't feel right. Even though to other people, *that* was the voice of Nightwish. So maybe that's will happen with Linkin Park. Younger people might hear Chester and think that doesn't sound right after hearing the new singer. 🤷🏻♀ My biggest point of discussion for this is always the vocals. When I think Linkin Park, I just hear Chester.. and while there are other band members..I feel like it wouldn't be as obvious if they weren't in the band anymore. Not all bands - but I feel like when it comes to playing instruments, that is kind of easy to "replace" or substitute if someone is talented enough. But losing the core vocals to a band, completely changes it. But like you said, it happened with Nightwish and I love them. But I also didn't really know what they were *before* to feel like something is missing or not. I guess it's just all perspective and preference. 🤷🏻♀ You got me with the Nightwish though..that made me think more about this topic. 😂👍🏻

This song's sound is Linkin Park, it just is. Chester was incredible and a hero to many, but Linkin Park was the music and lyrics they created. Emily is incredible, and to me, kinda has the same "style" as Chester. Yes, her screams won't be as deep / powerful, but then her clean singing is so much more beautiful (her performance of Lost was amazing). This is also 1 song from the new album, we need to hear the rest, especially when Mike said they went heavier than previous albums. But over the years Linkin Park have made so many different songs, to say this doesn't sound like Linkin Park is insane. If you listen to Hybrid Theory, it's hugely different to the later stuff just before Chester passed away. Mike, and all the other original members staying, want to continue Linkin Park. They know Chester/Rob more than anyone, and what they themselves want or need. How dare anyone try to take away something that brings them, and others, so much joy. The smile on Mike's face during the live performance was amazing to see. Linkin Park is bigger than Chester. But they're also not trying to replace him. This is a new era. So many people hated on them for previous albums, too. Either don't listen to it, or stop complaining and enjoy that our favourite band (or one of) is back. Also, I would argue it would be more problematic if Mike had passed away. To me, if we only had Chester and no Mike it would be much harder to continue.

Thanks for the review. A few points. I think the reason they didn't introduce a new band is that what happened to Chester wasn't a bad or good ending, but a half-finished job, and I understand Mike's philosophy of not changing the band's name. Chester's voice was a special and memorable voice. In fact, hybrid voices in men are usually less attractive than women, especially in the rock genre. This was a problem that Chester had personally pointed out and I really think it was the right choice. If we want to compare the beginning of their work with the beginning of Linkin Park, maybe they did better, but the point is, when we start from the halfway point, it is assumed that the new Linkin Park has been completed and we cannot compare the new Linkin Park with the beginning of their work and the expectations of the fans. It is much more than this. This can create a bottleneck for them, but I am sure they will succeed. Thank you again

@noenken

There is a difference between creating a new band with some old members and continuing with the same name. Audioslave was essentially Rage Against The Machine with Chris Cornell on vocals. BUT they dramatically changed in music style and rarely played old RatM songs. On the other hand bands can switch out the singer and stick with the name. Genesis did it, AC/DC had to and there is other examples. These bands stuck with the name because the core of what they did didn't change. So I get that "Chester fans" have a problem with it on an emotional level but 4 out of 6 members are still the same. They make the same kind of music, they play their old stuff live, they sound more like LP now with the new song than they did for the majority of the last two decades. They do what they do because they are who they are. Naming them anything but Linkin Park would be ... a lie, to be honest.

AC/DC literally began a new life, they picked someone who's at the same level of Bon, if not better. 70% of the fans only recognise Brian Johnson's voice as the lead singer because Bon Scott died at the beginning of the band. So, there's dozens of hit songs in the name of Brian. With Chester, is the same thing, but when he died, there's was already decades of legacy behind. They could've started a new band. This a cover band, not Linkin Park

I don't think they had to, but I definitely think that when bands don't - people question if that is really the true "band" anymore. Another example of that is Pantera. It's all subjective... Change is never easy, especially when a singer leaves or passes away. Some bands choose not to carry on... Other try to embrace a new singer and attempt to move on... Most times, it doesn't work unfortunately... but when it does, it can be great and different. AC/DC still has a contingent of fans who will not accept any other singer than the late Bon Scott... the band has been more popular w/ Brian Johnson on vocals. Black Sabbath replaced Ozzy Osbourne in 1980 w/ singer Ronnie James Dio... and although they were commercially successful, a lot of Sabbath fans refused to accept anyone but Ozzy. Iron Maiden has quite a few fans who do not listen to any records after vocalist Paul Di'Anno left the band in 1981... and a majority of their fans hated singer Blaze Bayley after he replaced Bruce Dickinson in 1995 until 1998. Metal Church started w/ vocalist David Wayne in 1984 and recorded 2 albums... then, he was fired and Mike Howe joined on vocals and Metal Church did fairly well w/ him until the mid-90's... Ronnie Munroe (vocals) joined in 2004 as Metal Church began touring again. Mike Howe rejoined Metal Church as the singer in 2016 and the band became popular again... Sadly, David Wayne passed away in 2005... and Mike Howe took his own life in 2021... Metal Church announced a new singer in 2023 (Marc Lopes) and the jury is still out if he will work out. Drowning Pool lost original singer Dave Williams in 2002 to a heart condition that took his life after 1 album ... They could never regain their initial popularity but carried on w/ various singers, the current being vocalist Ryan McCombs. Stone Temple Pilots fired their original singer Scott Weiland in 2013 and he passed away in 2015... They hired vocalist Jeff Gutt in 2018 but even though their new records have not been as successful, STP can still tour on their catalog of music. Death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder lost their vocalist Trevor Strnad, who took his own life in 2022... Their founding guitarist Brian Eschbach took over on vocals and The Black Dahlia Murder received a good response on tour... so, they decided to record a new album 'Servitude' which will be out Sept. 2024. Notably, Alice In Chains lost vocalist Layne Staley to an OD in 2002... and they opted to hire new singer William DuVall in 2006 and carry on as Alice In Chains... They have done quite well since then, even though DuVall sounds nothing like Layne but still sounds like Alice In Chains. I could go on and on... and you can say what u want about Linkin Park changing their name after Chester Bennington passed away (Soundgarden has still remained inactive since Chris Cornell died in 2017) but ultimately, it's up to the band if they want to continue w/ the brand name rather than start from scratch. If the fans want them, they will speak up on tour and in record sales. After Creed broke up in 2003... the band members hired vocalist Myles Kennedy and formed a new band Alter Bridge... They even refused to play Creed songs at Alter Bridge concerts. Journey is still bigger than ever in 2024, even without their iconic singer Steve Perry (who hasn't toured w/ Journey since 1986) ... Their catalog of music is so popular that fans are thrilled to hear them live in concert w/ current vocalist Arnel Pineda. Like I said... subjective.

But moving forward, the spouse would probably chose to use the new name for herself. 😜 BUT...regardless, she could chose to not. She could forever continue with her previous husband's name, she could go back to her maiden name, or she could take the new name. Just like LP could've. I really kept thinking about that line I only wanted to be part of something even after I wasn't watching the video, could be interpreted different ways. The drummer was replaced and the guitar player doesn't want to go on tour, lots of questions, interesting some people looked at a Woman singer not as controversial as another man singer.Other bands have had their lead singer leave and keep the name that really doesnt bother me ,Emily is good at what she does .

I'm not gonna watch this just cause of the comments. Sorry this is amazing, the band is moving on. This isn't a Chester replacement, it pisses me off to no end that Chester's son and mother are attacking LP non stop. Especially his mom. It was not Chester's band. Mike cofounded it. Mike wrote and produced a lot of the music. Clearly mental issues must run on Chester's side of the family. His son has gone insane just going after Mike 25x per day. His mom started attacking Emily claiming she turned off their live announcement after listening to Emily "screech her way through my sons parts." She's an incredible vocalist and the fact that his mom is saying that shows how incredibly petty she is. Im sorry, I know she lost a son. I know you don't get over that. But she should be happy that everyone is talking about her son again. Keeping his memory alive. I think she wanted them to come back and watch them fail, which again, shows the mental health problems. 6 guys in the band, 1 of them commits suicide. Not died tragically or anything. Killed himself. And you expect the other 5 to just roll over and give up everything they worked 25 years for? Why? Nobody is mad at acdc. Only 2 of 4 original members. GNR moved on without their arguably most iconic member. Slash's mom didn't go on social media and bash axl rose for it. Get over it people. This is the new linkin park. The sound is slightly different, as most albums are when you have a 7 year gap between them. I hate to say it like this. But people need to move on. Chester died 7 years ago now. I know that sounds horrible to say, but if your dad died tomorrow, do you think he'd want you to wollow in self pity and hate for the next decade? Or you think he'd want you to get on with your life?

If you watch the video, I said that she has a great voice - but when I hear "Linkin Park" I think Chester. I understand there's more people in the band and that they can change or come back however they want. But it's just not what I'm used to hearing. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm gonna check out another video where she sings an older LP song to see what I think but at the end of the day, people can think whatever they want about it lol. Music is art, and not everyone is gonna look at it the same. Or appreciate it how another person thinks it should be appreciated. That's just having different tastes and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I've said in other comments it seems like there are some fans that accept new members and some that don't. You saying AC/DC is a good example of people that accepted one. When I did Pantera songs, lots of people told me that it's not "really" Pantera since certain members are no longer here. It varies and everyone can have their own opinion. There is no right or wrong way to hear music. I don't think anyone - close to Chester or fans of his should be hostile towards anybody. But just simply not enjoying it as much as the original LP, that's just how it's going to be for some people. 🤷🏻♀️

YES. IT IS LINKIN PARK. LP was a band before Chester and are one after Chester (RIP CHESTER). This is directed to haters and biased minds in general. People that call themselves LP or Chester fans actually think that hed want the name changed or the band to not continue doing what they love?? Hed want the band and legacy and music to march forward and live on. Emily brings the same essence and energy while providing something new. Lets face it. No matter who they got, m or f, some of you so called fans, haters, reactors would hate it. Did no one think that regardless of who was chosen there would also be an adjustment period because no one can or will ever replace Chester. Emily isnt REPLACING Chester. Shes honoring him. Shes an addition to the babd. But they all constantly say the ones that are playing the role of Chester, is us, the live audience. The REAL fans. The real fans would think and honor what Chester would want. And give Emilie a chance. Shes badass.

A female singer is different enough that they can start a new chapter and have their new music live in the shadow of their old stuff. A male singer would never escape Chester's shadow. As for your comment about starting a new band, and I don't mean this as a slight against you, but I think you may just not be aware of how common it is for world famous bands to lose members across a 25 year life cycle. I understand that your point is that losing a member is one thing but losing CHESTER is to lose the soul of the band. But it isn't uncommon for such foundational members to leave or be lost and for their bands to continue on without them. I haven't seen much of your channel so I don't know much about the music you listen to, but Joey Jordison from Slipknot passing away is a great example I think of. There will never be another Joey, but Slipknot is still Slipknot.

This is VERY MUCH Linkin Park, just not with Chester. People need to stop being so much in their feelings that they can't be reasonable and logical. Emily fits just fine with the band and this new era of Linkin Park. There are Chester fans and there are Linkin Park fans. They aren't necessarily the same. Welcome to Linkin Park, Emily. F*ck the naysayers. Doesn't matter if you never heard of Dead Sara. You know about them now. Go listen to them and how much of a great singer she's always been. And, shocker, Dead Sara wasn't only Emily. There are Chester fans and there are Linkin Park fans. They aren't necessarily the same. Time to stop whining about the band changing their name. Why the hell should they change the name they worked so hard to build up as a household name? Don't let your feelings stop you from being reasonable. Tough sh*t for people who don't think it's Linkin Park. Cry me a river lol. I'm not mad, I just don't get why people think a band is ONE person. They focus all their energy on a single member. "When I think of Linkin Park I think of Chester." Then you're not a Linkin Park fan, you're a Chester fangirl lol. Like I said, not mad about it but it is what it is. And people should stop whining about them changing their name. They're not going to so deal with it. Whiners need not apply, Jamie Bennington included (that kid's an unhinged, f*cking idiot lol). One more thing, it pays to listen to music with good headphones. The part you thought at the end that was repetitive has an additional vocal layer of Emily added halfway through it.

I think I’m in the same place as you. I really like this new song, and Emily Armstrong’s voice is outstanding. But I did watch part of their live stream, and she just can’t do the old Linkin Park songs. She doesn’t have the vocal power to really knock those songs out of the park. So I’m looking forward to their new album, but sadly I don’t think I’m going to see them live again, because I don’t want to see the doing the old Linkin Park songs. Which sucks, because Linkin Park is one of my absolute favorite live bands. I saw them several times back in the day and they always killed it every single time. So I do wish they would have come up with a new name. So for me, Linkin Park is done, and I love this new band a whole lot, but I’m not paying money to see them do subpar Linkin Park covers.

I'm sorry, but I agree that it's not the same band without Chester. He was THEE voice literally and figuratively that made the band what it is. I think they should have re-named the band, and if they wanted to keep making music in the style of LP, then I don't really see a problem there. She really does have a good voice, I still like the song, I'd give it 7 out of 10 stars because I also felt the repetitiveness while listening. It doesn't really matter what I have to say about it because the decision has been made, and they are moving forward with it. I will continue to listen to it and enjoy the music, but it will be in the context in my mind, that I am listening to new music from a different band. I will never listen to one of these songs, and think to myself, OH YEAH, this is some ORIGINAL LP $hit right here!!! Nope, not gonna happen. I want to make clear I don't hate the new band, but no matter anyone's opinion, they will never be the same without Chester, and no one will ever replace him no matter how desperately they try. So this new band, is basically Linkin Park Version #2, but hey that is OK and I'll listen to and support what they put out!!! I'd even go to one of their concerts if I got reasonably priced tickets.
