Wow Professor Ron! No one sends a response these days. Thanks for that! I used to be a tenor sax, bari, flute and piccolo player. My little fingers curled up, and I can't play anymore. I recently bought a beginner folding electric piano to try and play something again. Since I've been away from it for sooo long, I'm re-acquainting myself. Never really very good on piano. I remember taking counterpoint when there were no portable anything! I'd have my professor play them when I got to class. My left hand is useless being a single note instrument player. He shared that I was doing it in my head, unlike my other classmates. All of that, ancient history. Decided to get it in my ears again. So you are in my new listening library! Thanks so much for sharing your gifts!!!💜💜💜

Thank you for your support and kind words. It sounds like we are alike in that music has been, and continues to be, part of lives. I hope that the pieces I’ve selected help provide a few moments of beauty for the listener. After all, that is why Chopin, Liszt, etc. composed those works of art in the first place!

Very nice! This score is very accurate. May I ask where I can find the music sheet where you learned it?
@Ronalbrechtpiano
Жыл бұрын
A_Hipposhark Thanks so much! I purchased the sheet music through Musicnotes. However, I played the score pretty much as written until the second interlude (between the main theme sections.) The score is very barren at that point, with very few notes. To me, it sounded very disappointing playing that section as is. (It was probably transcribed literally off of the Guaraldi Jazz Trio playing-which can be found on KZitem.). So, I slowed that section down a bit, added a boogie-woogie bass line, added jazz chords in the left hand, but kept the right hand pretty much as written. I also thought the ending on the score was too sudden-the left hand pattern just stopped, so I added the short tag on the very end-just for fun. If you are interested in playing the piece, the score on Musicnotes will work just fine. I just wanted to fill it out and jazz it up a bit more-but that was just my preference.

The bass line in the original has a slight bounce in the riff. It’s pretty subtle as middle note is staccato and the upper note is accentuated. It adds a lot to the vibe :)

You have a finely-tuned ear! In my other piece/video of Vince Guaraldi, (“Skating”) posted awhile after this tune, I put several different articulations in the left hand, adding more to the right in the improv section. It was fun! Thanks so much for listening.

@@Ronalbrechtpiano oh cool I will take a listen to that. I’ve listened to a dozen or so renditions of this one and very people correctly replicate the nuance (and I think he varies the emphasis a bit throughout) - makes me appreciate the difference between being able to “play” a piece versus being Vince Guaraldi 😂. Been working on this one myself so figured I’d take a gander around.
@Ronalbrechtpiano

The challenge I felt in coming up with arrangements of this piece and “Skating” was to at least capture the essence or spirit of the pieces, since imitating every nuance was impossible because they were conceived for jazz trio and not solo piano. I suppose that was part of the fun.

Hello! I’m playing on my Kawai Novus 10S Hybrid Concert grand, complete with the same Millennium III action from Kawai’s elite SK-EX concert grand. I’m recording directly from the piano into an interface and then to the video camera, so there is no microphone. The piano sounds great through quality headphones. I have three grand pianos sounds from which to choose. The most powerful is the SK-EX. (I use it on the Rachmaninov Prelude Op. 3, No.2, found scrolling further down the “Videos” list). Thanks for listening and thank you for your question.

Playing accurately hands together is a never -ending challenge for all pianists--regardless how advanced. It's all part of the fun! It didn't take me long to learn and record this. It took a few extra sittings to work out the two sections that are more improvised. Good luck on your piano journey!

Not like I heard it elsewhere, including an actual performance on a Peanuts album by Vince Guaraldi. I guess it's because jazz lends itself to improvisation (as a classical piano student I tend to be more of a purist and adhere strictly to the composer's rendition).
@Ronalbrechtpiano
8 ай бұрын
Yes. Agreed. As a fellow Classical pianist, we must adhere to the score provided by the composers. In the jazz world, composers tend to write out frameworks from which the performer can fill in or even at times improvise off of. I refer to scores vs. performances by such greats as Dave Brubeck and Claude Bolling. I used the actual score from the trio performance, but without the other instruments, it was too barren to play it note-for-note as a solo piece. So, I added a little (not a lot) to help it stand better as a solo piano piece, but tried to preserve the style and musical integrity of the original piece for jazz trio. Thanks so much for listening and commenting. I appreciate it.
