The WDR BIG BAND performs together with Lionel Loueke (guitar, vocals) latter's composition "Farafina" in an arrangement by chief conductor Bob Mintzer. Additional solos are played by Ricardo Rodriguez on bass, Paul Heller on tenor saxophone, Billy Test on piano and Hans Dekker on drums. Produced as part of the WDR JAZZCLUB concert "African Soul" at WDR Studios Bocklemünd / Cologne (December 2022).
The internationally multi-award-winning guitarist Lionel Loueke comes from Benin in West Africa. His strongly rhythmic music with its thoroughly independent sound can be heard on numerous albums, including on the renowned jazz label Blue Note. Loueke's bands regularly feature renowned soloists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding.
