Lionel trains "at night" goes back to the 1950s for me, as I recall my older brothers running their trains on the wooden attic floor. They would turn off the light and we would all lay down and watch the trains make their rounds in the dark. To this day I remember with vivid clarity the glowing green and red switch lanterns, the golden light in the locomotive cabs, and the warm white light from the headlights. We had no operating accessories or lighted buildings, yet the impression of that experience was unforgettable and permanent. Whenever I smell the ozone and grease from those Lionel motors, it immediately takes me back to 1957. For all their bells and whistles, today's digital trains don't offer the same visceral impact as their postwar predecessors. They impress in different ways, and are a product of a different era. I'm a postwar product - just like my Lionel trains.

I too ran my trains at night in the basement and loved the searchlight car spinning around. Fun being a kid in the fifties, thanks for the comment.

That's a nice video of nighttime running. 2 nice engines pulling passenger cars. I also have a 2328 GP 7. Thanks for sharing your video. 🚂🚃🚃🚃👍
