The understanding of HDL-C seems to have changed in recent years. I’ve listened to several presentations by cardiologists and lipidologists who pointed out that it is much too simplistic to call it the “good” cholesterol. I cannot repeat all the complicated details they described, but they pointed to the fact that specific drugs that had been developed to raise at risk people’s HDL-C have not had the expected effect of being protective for cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. It seemed that there’s more unknown than known when it comes to HDL-C. I was wondering whether you have updated knowledge, based on the newer science, that you can share with us, Dr Taylor.

There is a lot of controversy over the minutia. This falls mostly in the realm of both HDL and LDL (which has now been divided into many sub-particles, called VLDL, which have been further sub-divided into sub-sub-particles). I will not delve into all the minutia. It only confuses people. Unfortunately, when people get focused on minutia, they fail to remember that the important thing is to adopt a lifestyle that makes it unnecessary to worry about the minutia.

Looking for an answer that I may have missed. Please chime in if you know the video number I need to rewatch. My doctor stated that my belief that Estrogen would help long term diseases was erroneous. I was shocked. When I opened my Estring I was again shocked that the warning specifically stated not to use product to prevent heart attacks or dementia. I wondered if it is because I was not given the Femring so I looked up the literature and was again SHOCKED that it had the same warning. In short, Dr. Taylor did shock me with info that is completely contradicting what I am reading directly from the products that were discussed.

I'll be addressing this when we get to the appropriate videos (which will be videos 177, 178, & 179). Try to stay focused on the topic at hand in the meantime. I do my very best to answer questions before you ask them, but your question is completely off-topic at this point in the education. So, hold tight. I'll get there. The basic mechanism is that estrogen is what kept your arteries soft. "Hardening of the arteries" is what happens when you lose your estrogen. It's essentially aging of your arteries, and estrogen is what prevented them from aging.

Dr. Taylor, I think the concept of cholesterol may need to be reexamined in modern medicine. The concept was first introduced in 60s, but has gaining traction & deeper research in 1990s. Its confusing bc on the one hand pre-diabetes & diabetes which account for at least 1/3 of the American population, are able to control insulin production by a low carb, high fat diet, combined with intermittent fasting. All the doctors want us to loose weight, control our blood sugars, reduce mental fog, lower cancer rates, yet cholesterol & Triglyceride values increase on paper, while HDL increases & A1C values decrease. Greetings Dr. Barb! This information is priceless and I feel blessed and grateful to have found your channel. Quarantine has been a breeze because I'm binge watching Menopause Taylor in order! Recently I changed Doctor's and went in armed with the information you have taught me. I switched from a compounding product to a vaginal ring and it's working wonders. I am using a systemic/continuous ring with Etonogestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol delivering .120mg/0.015mg per day, does this adequately cover the dosage for the long term benefits? Matching your dosage chart to the product packaging is not adding up in my brain, I understand ingredients/packaging change constantly. I can't thank you enough for everything you do for all the women in the world!
@MenopauseTaylor

Amy, I am unable to answer your question with the information you have given me. There are 2 different kinds of vaginal rings: The Femring sends estrogen throughout your body. The Estring confines estrogen to your vagina. The Femring comes in 2 dosages: 0.05 mg/day and 0.1 mg/day. To get the benefits of preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's you have to use the Femring 0.10 mg/day. I think you typed in the dosage incorrectly.
