Great lecture. Just to clarify, does VLDL have apolipoprotein A or no? At 21:16 VLDL is not listed under A, but A is listed with VLDL.

Hi, I am APO E 2 heterozygous, 57 almost 58. I really understand this ., and will copy it down because WHEN I go to any doctor with this information and ask to be referred to a Cardiologist/re Lipid specialist I get treated like a moron and ignored. Fats affect me BIG TIME! And my entire metabolic structure is so different to my Husbands who is an APO E 3/3. I do not know my other gene as I was only tested for the 2 Factor. I hope its a 3. Whatever I EAT affects me drastically and so its no processed or refined foods.. I had all my amalgams removed but not by a biological dentist so have been left quite ill from the toxic effects of this and also 2 Root canals left which as we know are a dead gangrenous bone inside a living organism and that doesnt work! I do need to get these 2 out as its affecting my health badly now. I would say that there is Familial Dsylipidemia but what class I have no idea. Mother had heart problems for all her life., died Heart failure at 70, diabetic late onset. Father massive coronary at age 67. Brother suicided but they did autopsy and he had atherosclerosis starting of at age 35. Dads brother died massive coronary. Mums dad died massive coronary. Mums half sister died burst Aorta. Mums brother has had a burst Aorta, still alive. Quite a history of heart in family. So what can I do any help be appreciated. Thank you :) email is desireeaquarian@yahoo.com.au

Okay, i am very confused about type 1 Hyperlipidemia now, what you said about it seems logical , however Fredrickson classification of hyperlipidemias states that only Chylomicrons are elevated in type 1 and that Serum has creamy top layer without being turbid. If VLDL are incresed serum should be turbid and if they aren't incresed how come they aren't, it's illogical. This is literally killing me.

Why do we need to convert cholesterol to cholesterol esters?
@Maker0frock

Because the cholesterol esters are able to pack together more tightly, hence more cholesterol in less space
